----------------------------------------------------------------------
What’s positive about it? Ripping people off who have older cars? All for a negligible change in air quality in the outer London locations?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fresh air.
The internal combustion engine is on the way out, get over it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And what do the poorer amongst us do exactly? Stop driving? Get public transport everywhere instead?
How much cleaner is the air going to be in outer London areas? Do you even know? Do you actually care or are you just supporting it blindly because ‘clean air’?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well public transport should be the answer yes..
And the increased revenue should fund the improvement of said services. The fact public services, such as mass transport are a joke in this country is part of the problem.
As for being unable to afford EVs/hybrids that's why I suggested financial aid with the purchase of one, which you seem to have ignored.
The savings from not paying the EZ if you really need to drive within it/savings on fuel, tax and maintenance should pay most of it back over any loan period.

Population of 550,000 vs 9,000,000
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Lisbon has a higher population density.
Lisbon - 6450 people/km²
London - 5518 people/km²
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Irrelevant. All of the infrastructure is so much easier to create, maintain and improve with 550,000 people, density doesn’t come into it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, let's just discount the statistics we don't like as irrelevant.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But it is irrelevant. They can set up Lisbon much easier than we can London. Even you can understand that, surely? Perhaps not….
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I can recognise that a higher population and surface area can make things more challenging.
I can also recognise that a higher population density which leads to 1000 more people on the roads per km² can also make it more challenging the other way.
It's seems that you are the only person who can't understand something, as you are the only one who has claimed one of those things is irrelevant.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No, I get that density is a factor for pollution levels but Lisbon has a much easier task to improve that as it has about 6% of the population of London.

Other than beat the nationalist drum, she and her party failed in every single measurable going and even those she set for herself. Every single one. That despite the fact that the population of Scotland pay the highest taxes and receive the largest per capita funding in the UK.
Then surrounded all of this with a stony refusal to discuss, be challenged or engaged with anyone who disagreed and kept complete control over the judiciary and any other authorities.
Well rid.

Have you got any statistics to back up the negligible change in air quality? ULEZs are popular because they are reducing pollution and improving air quality, now that poor air quality has been recognised legally as contributing to deaths it's only a matter of time before people start trying to sur council's for failing to meet air quality targets. That's going to carry a cost too, as will ignoring the climate crisis.
As for the cost of the public transport, I don't know, I don't live in London, but perhaps like other nations we should subsidise our public transport so we see the efficiency and environmental benefits of a well funded Non profit service.

I think it was in their own report (bear in mind that I am referencing outer London areas not central London which is naturally more dense). Let me see what I can find. It came from a question and answer session with Khan himself in Mayors Questions.
I’ll see if I can find the relevant info. Macro - it’s because outer London is way more spacious and suburban than central London.
Adios Sturgeonnnnn you khunttttt
I think Sturgeon's legacy has been that she has helped establish Scotland as an internationally recognised progressive, fair, just and equal society for people from all walks of life. I think she's been a force to be reckoned with and her continued success has ensured that Scottish issues have been at the forefront of UK politics in a way they never have been before.
However we can't escape the fact that her domestic record has never been fantastic, and seems to have become poorer as years have gone on. I feel she's been less radical as the years have passed which has been detrimental to resolving the issues the country has.
Ultimately I think she's been an outstanding politician.
This was in a letter to SK:
ty' Imperial College London concluded "ULEZ on its own was not effective in the sense that the marginal effects caused by the ULEZ on improving air quality were small, either at particular locations or averaging across London".
The conclusion was shared by your own Integrated Impact Assessment that states "The Proposed Scheme is estimated to have a minor (NO2) to negligible (PM2.5) beneficial impact on exposure to air pollution and achieving WHO Interim Targets across Greater London". It also concluded "The Proposed Scheme is estimated to have a negligible beneficial impact on carbon emissions in Greater London."

I'm not a Nat but regardless, as a leader she saw off 4 PMs and her will be regarded by normal people as a competent, progressive leader.
Be interesting to see who replaces her and their commitment to pushing for Indy ref 2.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Other than beat the nationalist drum, she and her party failed in every single measurable going and even those she set for herself.
Well rid.

Totally out of the Blue this mornings announcement say the SNP. Nobody knew apart from Sturgeon herself and Ginger Nuts on JA606. So the SNP are saying across the grown ups world media right now.
This place is littered with nutjobs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Would sound plausible were it not for the fact that I shared it with others on the Scottish boards.
If you’re so disbelieving, why don’t you pop over there and ask the direct question instead of just throwing something out there?
Just a thought.

God forbid someone wants to do something positive.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What’s positive about it? Ripping people off who have older cars? All for a negligible change in air quality in the outer London locations?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fresh air.
The internal combustion engine is on the way out, get over it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
And what do the poorer amongst us do exactly? Stop driving? Get public transport everywhere instead?
How much cleaner is the air going to be in outer London areas? Do you even know? Do you actually care or are you just supporting it blindly because ‘clean air’?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
55.2% of the electorate agreed with Khan's main manifesto promise of improving Londons air, in 2021 he made it perfectly clear what he was planning on doing re : ULEZ.
This new found compassion for the poor is welcomed but let's not kid on its anything but tribal nonsense.
You agree with improving infrastructure and providing the means for EV vehicle charging, how are you proposing this is paid for?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
New found? Gtfo mate it’s got nothing to do with tribal nonsense. I’m not affected by this directly so I have no direct skin in the game but I know that many people will be screwed massively by this tax.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Public transport in London - how much is that per annum versus the running costs of an older car yearly?
That’s just commuting to work - what about doing the weekly shop or travelling to see family et cetera?
Again, for a negligible improvement in air quality in outer London areas….
The cost of the cure is worse than the disease in this instance for me.

Gtfo?
So how are you gonna pay for the infrastructure so that when we stop using fossil fuel driven vehicles in 7 years? Conservative leader Johnson refused to discuss long term planning/funding with TfL, maybe if it was a garden bridge...
This has been in the pipeline for 3 years, its what Khan said he was going to done year ago How, how much time would you give people to organise their personal transport needs?
Forward planning isn't for everybody, some people do want everything but aren't willing to pay for or change anything.

I think we should do the way you support and get the poorer in society to pay for it or just stop driving all together. Yeah that sounds good to me. After all, I’m a capitalist, Conservative snob right?
FYI - I don’t think the 2030 regulations will come in, they will be modified.
