*I'd argue our constituency based system is better than their electoral college even though they're both FPTP

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Well US Representatives sit in single member congressional districts, so they aren’t too different from Commons MPs.

The old argument of, “FPTP gives you constituency champions,” doesn’t hold any water any more anyway: very few MPs are actually from the constituencies they represent, and many have never even lived in them nowadays.

There’s no reason why PR can’t (and it does here in PT, for example, to a fair extent anyway) deliver you constituency representatives.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Fair but that's not why I'd argue ours is less bad

Our constituencies are just 80,000 people and we have far more undecided constituencies than America does swing states

It's not that our outdated system is better it's just that because we're a smaller country there are far less wasted votes and more people's vote, percentage wise, matters

Alan Lichtman has predicted 9 of the las 10 presidential elections. The only one he got wrong was 2000 when the SC handed it to Dubya.
He has predicted Kamala Harris to win this one.

Imagine if Musk used his wealth and tech talents to do do beneficial to humanity in general?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The space stuff is one of the reasons why I said Musk is important a while ago. He pushes boundaries in invention and we need that imo.

Flip side is, if you’re a billionaire, I find it almost psychopathic to not just fix some stuff.

Akon is trying to bring electricity to 600 million Africans and he’s a bang average rapper.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
What exactly does Musk do? He's just the face while the actual work is done by actual scientists. His right wing tendencies are a distraction because Musk or no Musk these achievements have been in the pipeline for decades and would have been achieved sooner or later. It's a shame and a wonder of capitalism that he gets to stick his name on all this stuff.

And Akon isn't a rapper.

Google his 13 keys. So long as the incumbent party holds a majority of these keys they win.

Lol Shropshire council broke
Despite cost cutting, Parking cost increases and council tax increases

This country is actually facked

We must have the highest that gets taken from our pay in the world in TAX & NI (combined)

Then we pay VAT, Council Tax, TV license fees, plus all the other costs, highest rail fares in the world, obscene parking charges of like £2 for an hour, and stamp duty, inheritance tax, potentially increased capital gains tax

And it’s not like our country is even that nice, our hospitals are outdated, our schools are outdated, we’ve barely got enough prison spaces, limited police, knife crime is rife

Like how do u even fix this $hit Lol

posted 4 weeks ago

Feel like we’ve squeezed our people so much already, won’t be much longer until there’s literally nothing more you can get out of people, even capital gains, it will raise some money short term but long term people will just find loopholes or invest less in this country so it’ll do short term help for long term pain

Getting to the point we may actually have to invade some countries and take some of their money

Suggest everyone watches BBC 1 right now. What’s still going on in Gaza is sickening and beyond belief, Biden and Kamala should be fackin ashamed of themselves, they’re the only ones with the power and pull to stop this and could of months ago, and what have they done? Nothing

Again, not saying Trump would but surely it’s worth a chance given there’s fackin No Chance with Biden & Kamala at the wheel

Wee Oscar thrives on his idiocy.

Throws a tantrum about the state of the country then wishes he was back in Victorian times. Life was so much better back then, dirty faced urchins never hurt nobody and we told Johnny Foreigner what was what.

Child labour is an untapped asset in modern Britain.

I look forward to seeing ragged kids wheeling fresh produce down our streets again for a bowl of gruel a day.
