Oscar beat me to it

I did forget option four, though: “OK, I’ll admit that climate change is happening (sometimes), but it’s actually a good thing because I get cold toes in the winter”

$100 is almost £82, 2 weeks ago it was about £3 cheaper.

No; no way, surely

I really liked Dunc. He was grumpy, funny and had some good stories.

Chart showing global annual temperature anomalies since 1940 (in °C) compared with the pre-industrial period (1850-1900), based on Copernicus data.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Gg7HGA7WMAADPXo?format=jpg&name=medium
----------------------------------------------------------------------
2024 confirmed as the first year beating 1.5 degrees C globally. The last ten years have been the hottest ten years on record.

The most up-to-date models (built on predictions which have already proven to be pretty facking accurate to date) puts us on track for 2.7 degrees C by 2100 *if all existing pledges are met in full*. 2.7 degrees, as a reminder, would be nothing short of catastrophic for the global ecosystem, biodiversity and mankind.

Meanwhile, those existing pledges… are not close to being met. Last year also saw record worldwide CO2 equivalent emissions, again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

It’s okay… world leaders will soon hold another conference, agree even better targets and then we can all celebrate their amazing work.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

They’ll have to fly into this conference with their massive entourages, to enable them to set targets they know they cannot possibly reach and which their populations will not pay for and for which they themselves and their governments will remove any incentivisation to do.

They’ll raise green taxes though and pissss it up against the wall as usual.

Just what is the point?

There is no point. Every time we’ve had a huge catastrophic human extinction level concern, it’s turned out to be completely wrong. Every, single, time.

Meanwhile Rosso and his ‘pretty facking accurate’ models can tell China (a country which he has previously hailed as amazing because of its green policies) to stop building a new coal power station every five minutes.

In 2023 they accounted for 95% of the world’s new coal power stations. Four times what they were doing in 2019.

Then we have India, Brazil and all the other countries that need cheap energy to develop and not die & starve.

Why do we think everything is costing so much currently in countries like ours? Cause energy is expensive due to this net zero rubbish which won’t work. What do we think happens when energy is expensive? People die.

We’ll keep being exposed to the ever growing effects of climate change recorded on people’s mobile phones until one day it’s ourselves filming it. Only then will people take it seriously but it’ll be too late.

Isn't part of our problem in the UK been we've failed to build any storage? Sure I've read before that even on days wind power is surging we're basically capped because of the lack of infrastructure.

Lack of long term planning constantly screws us. Same way we get floods but in summer we'll have hose pipe bans because we haven't built any new reservoirs in 20 odd years.

Storage is an issue but that’s not just a UK thing, pretty sure that’s a problem for most green energy options. That and the availability - less windy year, less sunny years et cetera.

The point is, the main point that no-one will discuss they will just deflect with typical nonsense, is countries like China and developing large nations. Are we to demand that they stop building coal plants to feed their children? To stop producing and growing? If not, then I’m sorry but ain’t nothing gonna change.

Taiwan
China
Australia
South Africa
South Korea

Amongst the highest coal power per capita in the world.

Earlier this year India has the second highest amount of coal plants with around 260. The US has 200 Indonesia 90

China has around 1100 lol…
