Except he was incapable of doing that when the opposition put pressure on him. Nothing to do with 'understanding' it or not, how pretentious. If there was a player near him he would simply hoof the ball upfield, even Southgate commented on the lack of composure from the team, of which Henderson was by far the worst culprit imo

Well my opinion is that you just don't understand football. We'll have to agree to disagree.

Need someone who can look up and pass the ball, hopefully Winks becomes that player

He was massively let down GR8 the system facked him over. I feel for him because he’s won me over personally. His drive and fitness and determination was far in excess of others around him

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Pretty much what I said earlier. It's incredibly tough getting the ball with the other two central "midfielders" 10 yards ahead of you all the time. It massively limits your options and also means you're going to be closed down easier meaning that you'll often only have a pass sideways or back.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The whole point of the system is to find the sides from deep, in order for the wing backs to cross to Kane. It's hardly surprising that he's either passing sideways to them or trying to hit them from distance. That's what his role was. If that isn't on, then he keeps it safe and plays to the centre backs and one steps up,bringing the ball into midfield as the free man, creating space for a pass to the attackers.

If people can't see that, having watched several games in quick succession then they'll never see it. Some people just don't understand what they see.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't agree with that so much. The wing backs crossing to Kane isn't really part of it. Look at the stats, I think that England were 26th out of 32 in terms of crosses made. The formation was about having the players between the lines and fluidity that we have lacked I previous tournaments where we have looked so rigid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah I don’t know what toor was watching.

Especially considering the tactics we seemed to use involved Kane dropping into the midfield to create for Sterling - which totally contradicts the crossing theory.

Honestly it really doesn't need a 236 comment article to decide whether Henderson is a good footballer or not.

Dier is the better passer and more composed

Hendo offers workrate and commitment

Both are limited

Thudd

I know he did some good stuff. For me the bad outweighs the good in Henderson, or at least enough to not rate him

England with Henderson do not lose.

There are other, more notable players to scapegoatbut this doesn't suit your agenda

I think there’s an element of deflection going on here. Certain other England midfielders one of whom plays for a certain club had a poor World Cup. They are going to be, rightly, criticised. Henderson by and large has had a good World Cup and has been praised by England fans and pundits alike.

Yeah they struggled to execute it to any effect, especially against the better sides as the wing backs were often on the back foot, which is why there was a struggle for creativity. The creativity in this system is supposed to come from the wing backs. That's the whole point of it. They play like wingers but drop in when they don't have the ball. Young had to keep cutting back onto his right which often resulted in him passing it back. Trippier did well on the whole when he got it wide.

Yeah but just because you and others believe that Henderson had a good World Cup, doesn't mean everybody has to follow the same narrative

Once again we are losing without him.

Doesn't happen when he plays.
