The media definitely has a bee in its collective bonnet about James Maddison. Maybe it’s from the assault court case the other year, where he was a witness but didn’t come out of it that well, but the fuss over his bag and this illness/casino episode are just built on a feeling that already existed. I would be interested to know whether opposition fans view him negatively and, if so, why.
I hope we can use this sentiment to our own advantage, both to build a bit of a siege mentality against the big teams and the media - always helpful - and to suggest to the player that this sort of unreasonable criticism would only be increased at a major club seeking to sign him.

I hate International breaks, they're so dull!! Except maybe we have some of our own playing....
.....craps...
Ughhh!!! I've actually watched a little bit of the Rugby this weekend, more than any football!
But yeah, i hope it has a positive effect on our best players, sincerely.
"Ughhh!!! I've actually watched a little bit of the Rugby this weekend, more than any football!"
I went to NFL at Tottenham today, pretty impressive stadium I must say and at least my team won, LOL
PS, you know you're a threat when they start targeting you, just ask Greta.
In the “limelight” now? Half of it is just filling columns with nothing better to print.
If ever Leicester City were in the limelight, and hardly away from the headlines of the sports pages of the daily rags, it was when Jimmy Bloomfield took over and signed Weller, Birchenall, Sammels, Worthington & Rofe (1971-72) and transformed a team from a workmanlike unit into one of utter flamboyance.
They were the envy of many but sadly fell short of expectations.
To be honest I’m a little bit fed up with it. I suppose that just proves football fans are never pleased as we all moan when everybody licks the backsides of the big clubs.
The reason I’m a bit fed up of it is because I don’t think we quite justify the hype yet. We haven’t played ten games yet and haven’t looked great in some of them, but have done ok in others. We might laugh at the demise of Spurs and Man Utd, but the former are only 3 points behind us and the latter 5 points. We haven’t proved anything yet or even started to.
I remember all the hype when we were top under Peter Taylor and everybody couldn’t get enough of him. He was even made caretaker England manager FFS. I’m not suggesting we’re in that situation now as Brendan is a much better manager, but the hype around him is still premature.
It always seems to be our players that are linked with moves away every week. What about players at other clubs? Wolves for example - one or two of their players should have moved after last season. Why can’t we have Jota being linked to Man Utd every five minutes?
I just want us to actually finish in a top 6 or top 4 place and stand a chance of retaining our best players. Then I might start believing the hype. Sorry to be a misery guts!
Keep Rodgers away from transfers and you guys can build something really good.
It's a classic story though Joby of the media building you up so they can knock you down.
I don't believe actual Leicester fans are falling the hype.
Well, I think Joby makes a very valid point. Hype us up all you like but we’ve not exactly set the world alight this season yet. If Man Utd are flirting with relegation then so are we!
Let’s see where we are after the next 5 games. It wouldn’t surprise me if the mixed results continue against the so called lesser teams and everyone forgets about us again until next season. Equally I think we could push on and then it will ramp up more.
I tend to ignore the press to be honest. Many so called experts are less informed than most fans, and there are only a few journalists that seem to genuinely have links to, and information on the club.
As for Maddison, that’s the biggest non-story I’ve ever read. The England situation looks interesting as he just doesn’t look like he fits in currently. But with the wheels coming off and our first qualifying defeat in 10 years being treated as if we’ve just lost 10-0 to San Marino, any of our players being called up can expect a similar focus.
The fact that our national media does absolutely nothing to support the England team is worth of it’s own thread. As paper distribution is eroding, news corps are doing all they can to drive revenue. Sadly that current ing comes in the form of selling advertising online and spamming the nation with pathetic click bait.
I think Maddison has been naive. He is sent home by the England squad because he has a virus - fair enough. He then proceeds to go to a casino on the night England are playing with his hood up at the table to try and remain anonymous. It’s just daft - nothing more than that, I’m sure he’ll be reminded of his responsibilities etc

Yes definitely naive.
I'll be greatful to return to club football next week, there is then so much more for us all (including media) to talk about
One man’s naive is the next man’s stupid...
I can work out if Maddison is just naive, young, or just incredibly arrogant. Or even a mix of the 3.
If going to a casino with his hood up and spending lots of money on an awful bag is the worst he does though, I think I can forgive him!!!
You just wonder what goes through his head. Like no one is going to notice one of the biggest stars of Leicester city football club walking into a casino in Leicester on the night he was due to be in the England team

Unless he knew exactly that BS, and knew exactly what he was doing. Let me make a little point here Mr Southgate, Coleen Rooney style.
Maybe he’s more clever than we think.
Den den deeeeeeeeeeer....
I feel surprised by this, in that I figure my traditional role would be telling off poor behaviour while Black Starr would be saying the opposite, but I really think this is a fuss over nothing. He was ill midweek, he was released because he probably wouldn’t be at 100% and Southgate didn’t want it spreading around the squad; by the weekend he was feeling mostly better so went out for a bit. And now the newspapers are framing it as someone pulling a sickie so they could go out to a casino, which they could do pretty much any time.
I’m not buying it. And I don’t think this is about him being in the England squad or that extra attention. Some sections of the media plain dislike him, and have done for a while.
Well that’s a rubbish conspiracy theory Dunge. Where’s the drama in that?
And the buzz has been killed.
He should of gone with Vardy to the casino.... Always a quiet night there.
