He was terrific. Tenacious, aggressive, fearless and full of energy.

His sheer willingness to run full sprint beyond Rashford and provide an overlap made a real difference to our play down that side. It's something Shaw simply refuses to do, despite also looking threatening on the very rare occasion he actually decides to use his pace.

Williams was unlucky not to get himself on the scoresheet, too.

He's still a bit raw of course, so patience will be needed but it was great to see another young player come in a do well.

Overall good but not fully ready yet.

---------------

He was superb imo... If you're going to proclaim not fully ready yet on the basis of 45 minutes, I'll proclaim he absolutely is on the basis of 90

Neither of us is right tho time will tell obv

Couldn't have asked for a better pl debut and almost got a goal aswell

Only area of worry is his enthusiasm has got him involved in a couple of off the ball incidents that could get him a name

He needs to be in ahead of young and will be pushing shaw hard when he returns

i did not see the game. but "lucky not to get a red card" and "he was decent" don't seem to go together
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Why not?

Someone could score a hatrick, get 3 assists, block 10 certain goals and then be lucky not to get sent off in the last minute.

The two have very little to do with each other.

getting sent off is pretty much the worst thing you can do for your own team.

so if somebody does something that should have led to him being sent off, you can not say he was decent.

you would never say "he scored three own goals but he was decent" would you?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I've seen loads of players who've had a blinder and have done something that could debatably get a red card... WTF are you talking about?

But he didn’t get sent off. Maybe if he got a red for reckless play then people would view his performance differently, but he didn’t.

Anyway, I thought he did very well... No sign of nerves or fear, really contributed to our direct play and tenacious pressing. Got up and down the wing all game long and really helped put pressure on their RB. Got into a few goal scoring position and fired off a decent shot for his chance.

Pros
- Tenacious
- Brave on the ball
- I don't think he was beaten one vs one
- Shown good discipline after a strong yellow, when surely one foul away from a sending off

Cons
- Plays in the wrong areas at times
- I don't feel he got forward enough
- When he did get forward he missed a great chance

Maybe he's ready to be back up but not yet ready to take Shaw's place. He does look better going forward than Shaw though. If he keeps up the pace of development he may replace Shaw within a few seasons. Though I'm not sure we have the fans ready to wait for it.

We could just sell Shaw and sign a good, attacking left back.

Shaws been here for half a decade and played about 7 games for us. I think it’s a good idea to look for his replacement.

Think it would have been a harsh red, but I've seen them given.

Liverpool show that dynamic attacking fullbacks are essential. We do t really have them, so if Brandon can fill that gap then he'd be a great replacement for Shaw.

"Liverpool show that dynamic attacking fullbacks are essential."

I think if teams played the right formation Liverpool's width can be nullified, we shown that at OT.

The issue with attacking full backs is you need the holding midfielders and Cb's to make it work. We have neither right now.

But he wasn’t sent off so your point is completely irrelevant to people’s view on Williams’ performance. Or you too simple to understand that?

posted on 11/11/19

Depends when and how you get sent off, Hippo. If he scored a hattrick and got sent off in the last minute, I don't think many would say that he had a bad game.

posted on 11/11/19

We hardly nullified it, their only goal came from a Robertson assist.

you are too simple to understand this. let me try one last time:

a player plays well for thirty minutes - he even scores a goal. he then proceeds to lie down in the centre circle and he goes to sleep for the rest of the game, would you say he had a good game? of course you wouldn't.

well being sent off is exactly that.

even worse, because you can not sub that player off.

the first job of any footballer is to not be sent off. it's the minimum.

.........

What on earth is this imbecile blabbering on about?

Anyone remember Ole getting sent off? Would you count that as a bad game by him?

posted on 11/11/19

Liverpool have lost one league game in nearly two years. Just because they don’t turn up at Old Trafford doesn’t mean their width can be nullified.
