One victim's father was apparently told by a police officer that they didn't investigate because of fear of racial tension. The angle is that people would have reacted, maybe physically against Asians in those towns, so they decided not to do a regular, standard investigation.
Call me crazy but I really don't buy it and to be honest I don't see why this angle is being pushed above other angles. Saying they failed to investigate because of fear of racial tension would get them off the hook to some extent, or at least divert some of the furore to other entities. Its a cop out just waiting for them to exploit because of the current mood in the country.

TD' s having a go at Africans sending money back from Ireland too and political figures saying migrants are just here for money and benefits.
Also, the recent tribal pot boiling over as state commemoration for the RIC police were opposed by republican minded politicians.
Attacks on Irish based refugees too and assaults on black people across the republic.
Blaming racism on brexit is lazy, and I know you are not doing so kneerash, but racism is not just England and leavers.

Just reading that a senior police officer in those awful cases has admitted they ignored the abuse of those children for fear increasing racial tensions.

What really makes my blood boil is the police and social services coming out and saying they’ll learn from this. It happened in 2005 ffs, not the 70’s. There’s no excuse for not investigating it properly in this day and age.

Saying they failed to investigate because of fear of racial tension would get them off the hook to some extent, or at least divert some of the furore to other entities. Its a cop out just waiting for them to exploit because of the current mood in the country.

Well the other reason is that these kids probably weren’t believed, kids in care are often seen as trouble makers and difficult.
Saville prayed on them for years and loads of kids homes were rife with it in the 70’s and 80’s.
I don’t see what “tensions” it would really have caused, I’m sure the majority of the Asian community are as appalled as everyone else.

I see SF in Dublin suspending their comrade Holoran for questioning the Irishness of Leo, with his "Indian blood" and grandparents.
TD' s having a go at Africans sending money back from Ireland too and political figures saying migrants are just here for money and benefits.
Also, the recent tribal pot boiling over as state commemoration for the RIC police were opposed by republican minded politicians.
Attacks on Irish based refugees too and assaults on black people across the republic.
Blaming racism on brexit is lazy, and I know you are not doing so kneerash, but racism is not just England and leavers.

Just reading that a senior police officer in those awful cases has admitted they ignored the abuse of those children for fear increasing racial tensions.

Police were focusing on "other ethnicities" apparently, and basically turning a blind eye, as Asian men abused white girls.
Its been happening for two decades.
Still is.

One victim's father was apparently told by a police officer that they didn't investigate because of fear of racial tension. The angle is that people would have reacted, maybe physically against Asians in those towns, so they decided not to do a regular, standard investigation.
Call me crazy but I really don't buy it and to be honest I don't see why this angle is being pushed above other angles. What really makes my blood boil is the police and social services coming out and saying they’ll learn from this. It happened in 2005 ffs, not the 70’s. There’s no excuse for not investigating it properly in this day and age.

Oh I agree with you mate. Just my point is anyone I've seen openly racist online in the uk is always heavily pro brexit. But of course its in every nation, its a global problem.

We're seeing more 'nationalist' parties here in Ireland now, using the guise of patriots to try cover their open racism, hanging signs saying ireland is for the irish, horrible horrible cants, luckily they only have 100s at most who will vote for them, we know our history and how we're a nation of emigrants, racism won't be tolerated by the vast majority of Irish people.
