Can't see Sancho leaving Dortmund where he's challenging in the league and playing in the CL, to go to United who are eighth and not going to be in the CL.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

We’ve heard this every time we sign a big name and then it happens anyway.

If he’s coming back to England then he’s playing for a club who will give him constant game time. He’s not going to play second fiddle, that’s the reason he left the champions.

Furthermore he’s 19, if it goes t1ts up he can move to another club by 22/23 and win trophies for another 10 years.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Have you? When? Which player did you sign when this was said?

Winston makes a fair point. Big money is a given. But Sancho isn’t going to rock up at United unless he buys into this so called project. You don’t leave City for Dortmund at his age if you aren’t considering what is best for your career development rather than your bank balance.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Things is, that's two different situations. Back then at City he wasn't going to get regular first-team action. He likely wouldn't have in most top 6 teams in the PL.

Moving to United from Dortmund now he'd be playing every week in the most popular league in the world. To equate that with believing in the 'project' is a red-tinted view. IMO.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I’d agree with this. But I also think if the first need (ego perhaps let’s call it- being in the best league, his home league) is met, then he might be swayed by a very, very hefty wage, rather than a vision.

We shall see. I’d expect us to at least come very, very close to signing him if we don’t outright sign him.

posted on 12/2/20

There's nothing wrong with getting paid loads. Loads of really good players get paid loads, although I understand the concern.

If he does sign, and I think Utd have a good chance, then it'll likely be for a number of reasons but one will absolutely be £200k a week.

Bales, I’m not saying he’d only move for them project’ - I’m saying he wouldn’t move just for money. He’d have to believe that United will get better.

And by £30k I don’t mean based on his current wage, I mean if he was choosing between City and United for example.

He’s not 100m good
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I think he probably is in this market. Who else at his age is delivering those numbers at 19 in a top league? Mbappe is doing it in France. Although not a great league, I think he'd do it anywhere such is his quality. Who else?

posted on 12/2/20

No doubt money will be a reason, that’s not being disputed.

Winston’s just making the point that as there are legitimate football reasons not to join he’d have to be convinced of the project and that lack of CL is only short term.

This is exactly what happened with Pogba. And if you read what’s been coming out recently it sheds even more light on that, with the claims that United hadn’t followed through on their promises when Pogba first joined the club when we were in the Europa.

I think he will move for money. We will throw loads at him, especially if we don’t make top 4. Let’s see what happens. If he is our top target, and I think he will be, I don’t expect that much competition, and if there is, Ed will relish the chequebook with his idea of another galactico.., (even if he’s nowhere near one at present)

----------------------------------------------------------------------

This

He’s also doing it in the CL, he’s also doing it for England. He was the highest rated of the under 17 side who won the World Cup (even though he had to leave early)

I’ve watched Dortmund play many many tines as they often play on Friday nights and that’s usually the only footy on then and he looks better than most of the people much older than him.

No player is guaranteed to be worth their fee but he is hugely perfect for our right wing (or left if Stretty is watching) and will provide the balance we’ve sorely lacked since probably 2008

Sancho is the hottest player on the market right now yet Baz doesn’t expect much competition for him.

He has averaged a goal or assist every 90 minutes over the course of last season and this season. That is insane for an 18/19 year old. Think how frustrating Ronaldo was at that age. He is a fantastic talent, which is why I think we will struggle to get him. We have a chance if he really does want to return to England. But I'll not be surprised to see him move to Real or Barca.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

I can imagine Baz sitting at home alone angrily sipping at a glass of scotch cursing at himself when hearing of another footballer earning £100k a week before launching it at his 1922 picture of Manchester United when players were paid in oranges and moustache brushes.

Well that would be key to his I think.

If not then money would be a factor, but I still don’t believe he’d come purely because of it.

I think people are just wary of other leagues.

Sancho is very good at football and is the quintessential modern forward in that he can play anywhere across the front three. He scores and sets up goals and is also good to watch.

A lot depends on whether he wants to come back to England. If he's willing to go to Spain or France, even stay in Germany, as well then there will no doubt be about 8 clubs in for him.

Chelsea getting Ziyech has made me go from doubting it to thinking ‘hold on’

Poch being manager might persuade him even without CL football

I actually pray if we don’t get CL football we miss out on Europa too. Imagine how good we’d be with Poch able to focus on one game a week?

I also read we turned down the chance to get Dembele this window as his cost was €100 million. Wise choice or not?

I doubt Sancho gives a fvck about playing for Pochettino.

Not the case with Baz. He just dislikes English players and players with a bit of, or perceived, ego and personality. He also knows fack all about football.

Back when Firmino was creating huge assist numbers in Germany I wanted him to join us but people were wary of it being the Bundesliga

The way i see it is that if a player in that league is doing what other people aren’t they are fairly unique and worth looking at. (As long as the league is half decent and even more so if they’re not doing it for the best side)

No, it's not far off, multiple places reported it.

I get that people think he left us and went to Dortmund purely down to lack of chances (although he'd only moved to the first team a few weeks before it, Guardiola I think would have played him more often than Foden had he stayed simply because of the position he plays).

There was also that he more than doubled his wages at the time too though and has also signed another new contract since. If he does move and wants more money than he's getting now then that's going to be an astronomical amount of wages for someone who is still a teenager.
