Better if a billion people die of starvation than Nuisance52 gets a cold.

The best thing to come out of this would be if some lessons were learned about how our economic model isn't right and that most jobs can be done at home

Is that assuming buying online becomes a thing of the past and we all grow our own food?

A side issue that is often ignored... a huge % off the working people of USA and to a lesser extent the uk are obese and at risk.

Coming out of lock down for the sake of the economy could really push the age of death down

This will be fascinating if proved accurate, this has been around for a while with people dying from it yet only now we have a test for it we know the cause.

So previous years death figures of respiratory illness already included this

Agreed. But still, hypothetically speaking how long before you have no option but to do so?

I’ll be honest, I don’t know a single person who works from home

I wonder how many of the 1.7m NHS workers can work from home?

Yeah this is something to consider. Diabetes and people with heart conditions are more at risk with the virus, and those things are directly related to obesity.

Hmmm ... what? If that’s some discussed win, try harder

We are talking about nations ignoring the conventions to prop up the economy. None of what you mentioned makes sense to the topic

Millions of super-fit people with no jobs and no money.

What could possibly go wrong.

If it is accurate I wonder how many more zoonotic soups we have lined up in our bodies just waiting for their turn.

I wonder if there will be a two tier system in a few weeks/months of people who’ve had it and who haven’t

In Wuhan people who are ‘safe’ have to show a green code on a mobile app to be allowed into the city.

It’s not definitive just yet but so far i think the assumption is yes.

Strange how the numbers are so high in random places

Take the UK alone, Sheffield has an unusually high rate

Haven't read other comments as yet but no doubt at all a time scale will have to be set. Countries simply can't lock down indefinitely. I suspect three months will have been the number thrown about but that may extend to the end of June but would be amazed if it went any further.

By that time folks won't give a crap about lives either unless directly affected by that point.

There is imo a maximum amount of time you can realistically isolate people for mental health reasons

It’s all a novelty now and I’m sure we can all last a decent while but there will be a breaking point if this is continued indefinitely
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I have a different Outlook to a degree.

I think people have realised how "isolated" they always were.

Speaking to a woman who is a high flyer, as in triple figure salary and travels all over the world for work, she has isolated with her kid and can't believe what she missed out on

That's just one example obviously. But many elderly have lived in isolation for years. Some are happy to see people checking in on them. Even if it's to drop off supplies

For me it's sad how as a society we have become pretty isolated over the years
----------------------------------------------------------------------

My missus is one of those and she is sick of the sight of me already

Some will certainly have to quit jobs if they are in the risky category. The managing of hospital numbers would be the biggest issue against saying feck it, get back to work.

That said, if we don't go back to normal then millions will be unemployed and government handouts will cease and anarchy will break out.
