Have you tried plugging it into your computer? Does iTunes recognise it?

There was a hard reset you could do for when you lock yourself out after getting your PIN incorrect too many times. I’ll see if I can read up on how it was done. In the mean time plug it into your computer 💻

yeah I've just tried that, but the screen is looking the same. Just the apple logo for about 45 seconds, blank for about 5 and repeat...

Have you charged it up ? Sorry if this annoys you.

I charged it overnight.

It came on this morning, but \I couldn't access my emails or delete old videos (to clear space). Switched it off and haven't been able to get back

That a link that shows you how to put your phone into DFU mode. It’ll will more than likely wipe everything you have and revert the phone to its original factory setting.

In all honestly. Even after you get back in it may be worth upgrading. Apple have a nasty habit on pulling the plug on certain models after a period of time leaving them to slowdown and die

Couple of things there might be worth a look, mate.

Hope one of them helps!

thanks will check that out.

Agreed, I've had the phone for three years but wanted a sim only deal so kept with it. Tbh I think I need an upgrade

Tbh I'd be quite happy to just sent it off somewhere, pay £50 and they fix it

Lex

Thanks mate I will have a look at that.

Sounds like it has tried to update software overnight?
All you can do is reboot or reset. There is a chance the phone is dead - used to get it on my iPods and they never recovered.

Apple are known for sending updates that could affect previous versions.

Palmers if the worse comes to the worse can you borrow a phone or buy one online? Are you in the iCloud so all your stuff is saved?

posted on 18/4/20

Some stuff is saved Sizz I think but I was getting messages after a while saying unable to backup to icloud.

Yeah I may just have to get a new one.

Have you checked the charger lead and socket. I’ve had leads that are knackered, thought I put my phone on charge and hadn’t.

Fields

Charger was working fine last night mate and when I turned it on this morning I'm sure the battery was full or near enough.

The phone is knackered and runs low on battery quickly but I'm pretty certain it was full this morning

Do they have an sd card? Pull that out and reboot.

I meant sd card, but iPhones dont have me

reset phone back to factory settings, and then restore from iTunes backup.

I am no expert but reminds me of when one time, an update happened overnight but for something or other, didn't finish and my phone was like in permanent update mode. I took the battery out, left it out for few hours, try it again, but this time plugged in and few seconds later, it just started as normal. I can't say it sound same as your predicament, but that was a nightmare scenario as I was due at work and had to leave the phone home and picked it up at lunch!

OP has similar problems with both my and my other half IPhone6. Both times it was to with the Battery. Hence why apple have been so quick in the last couple of years to ensure newer software allows for the phone to manage battery life - by not allowing a full charge etc.

Part of me believes the argument that Apple have made their phones have a optimum life of 2-3 years. Software bugs etc for updates on older phones is always noted as having problems from users on their troubleshooting pages.

Changing the battery whilst delicate due to their size, isn’t too hard with the right tools. YouTube videos can take you step by step as well. Batteries normally cost £10-20. Getting it done in an apple store would set you back upwards of £100.

Cheers Toby

I looked at a youtube vid of changing a battery and tbh it looked a bit tricky, particularly the part about heating the phone to looses the glue etc.

I'm not sure I fancy doing that, and there might not be any guarantee that it would work either.

Did you successfully change a battery and did that resolve the issue?

That's very kind of you Hounslows, and I might take you up on that
