I love Greg Davies. His stories about when he was a teacher are grate.

Peter Kay for me. Local lad with local humour.
Plus Car Share and Max and Paddy were top draw for gags and one liners.
Each to their own

Not seen him mentioned, but I liked Dave Allen.
Not a big fan of American comedians, but I do like Bill Burr. Jim Jeffries (yes I know he’s Australian) is another I liked, but not seen much of his recent stuff.

I can watch Tim Vine all day and still find him funny. Really basic, silly jokes. But funny as fack to me.

Frankie Boyle, Michael McIntyre, Tim Vine are all good. Used to like Jimmy Carr, but he tends to rely on bad taste rather than use it.

These are who I would have over the OP’s top five.

Billy Connolly, Eddie Izzard, Ben Elton, Jethro, Jasper Carrot, Ken Dodd and Bob Monkhouse.

And him. I couldn’t be ar$ed to look up how to spell his last name.

I don't watch enough stand up, so I only really know whether I like someone on a panel show/quiz show and the like to be honest.

Never been a fan of Ricky Gervais as a stand up - his TV shows and podcasts are generally brilliant though.

Cant really give you 'GOATs' because there are just too many, but some of the ones I like at the moment:

Rhod Gilbert
Dara O'Brien
Jason Manford
John Bishop
Kevin Bridges
Paul Choudhry
Romesh
Trevor Noah
Loyiso Gola

I generally dont find American stand ups funny at all. Different type of humour I suppose.

Same for me. I put up two Scottish and an English as my faves.
Robb is an American fan, his best films actors are always Yankee dominated. Nothing wrong with that but I prefer this side of the pond.

Can’t believe I forgot about Stewart “Crumpled Morrissey” Lee, he’s probably my favourite British stand up. His live shows and Comedy Vehicle, which was on BBC2, had me in stitches.

People from Britain and Ireland will naturally prefer British and Irish comedians. That said, Eddie Murphy’s Raw and Delirious are probably the best stand up shows I’ve ever seen. It’s a shame he didn’t do more.

I do like English comedy and prefer (on the whole) British sitcoms like Red Dwarf, Peep Show, The Office etc over a lot of American sitcoms

I just feel people like Bill Hicks and Dave Chappelle are stand up geniuses in a way that few British comedians are

Any Australian stand ups you like? Jim Jeffries and Steve Hughes (who doesn’t seem to have much material) are the only good ones I can think of.

Jim Jefferies for sure - seen him twice. Tim Minchin is good. Adam Hills is okay but not world class. You know the actor Eric Bana? He used to be a stand up and had some great stuff.

Your top 3 sitcoms were Taxi, Cheers and Friends. This is not criticism, I like all of those.
But generally I like UK programs because it has the sly humour I like.
