Track and trace has been proven to save lives, if the data is kept anonymous I don’t see the problem.

The thing is with these things, you don’t know who’s life it’s saved, if it prevents someone going out, spreading It and potentially killing someone you love, you’d never know.

For anyone worried about the data side of things, I think it would be very naive to think there’s any mor win formation being gathered than they already have, nor that they care about you enough to monitor you.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Track and Trace may be put to better use trying to track Dominic Cummings and his family spreading the virus all over the country.

The whole thing is a vast smokescreen.

Anyobe who thinks that the government don't already have all the data about you that they will ever need is severely deluded. They already know exactly where you are and who you're with.

All the publicity around track and trace is just to convince you that they don't.

Until they make it mandatory, ignore it.

Seems unlikely to me. To this level of personalisation and granular detail, at least. I would think Google and Facebook could put together a more accurate picture of your day-to-day movements than the government. It's why they use social media to swing elections these days rather than TV adverts. Though smart TVs with tracking cookies from ad servers are closing that gap.

Could they find it out? Sure. But signing up to an app that hands all of this data over, neatly packaged, to a demonstrably untrustworthy government seems like a bad idea to me. Even if you trust them to not misuse it you can't possibly trust them to not lose it, or sell it at some point.

Government have access to everything that Facebook, Google and others do.
It's incredible that people believe that governments run everything apart from social media.

Track and trace... If you've nothing to hide whats the big deal
----------------------------------------------------------------------
F*ck off.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yeah, who said I've got nothing to hide?

At this time people are unaware of how this info can be used against their best interests and that's why you see this kind of comment IMO. It will have to first exist in order for people to see its a terrible idea and then they'll start lobbying for their privacy back.

I've never registered for social media like Facebook and I use someone else's dormant/fake account to access content on Facebook when I need to, and to register to websites and games. There isn't a photograph of me on Facebook that I'm aware of and that makes me happy.

To be honest I’m sure I’m already on plenty of lists!

If they want to track and trace me they can do it without my help.

Agreed. I will never give consent to be tracked and traced through my personal effects like a mobile phone, unless they put a gun to my head or something like that, which is probably what will happen in the end anyway

posted on 28/5/20

Not sure they can make it compulsory even if they wanted to. I could be wrong of course, but GDPR is there to protect the individual (or supposed to be), so that making it compulsory goes contrary to that.

They will however Try to guilt people to using it.

Also, if you are tracked and told to stay home for SEVENTEEN days, even if you show no symptoms, how are they going to enforce that save a copper standing outside your house 24/7?

A lot of this relies on goodwill and compliance and they’ve blown most of that with this whole Cummings fiasco.

The likes of Google, Facebook etc will already have this data (to track your movement etc) as per their terms of service.

It's therefore surprising the government did not use any of the already available models which might mitigate some teething problems on roll out:

I don’t use google (DuckDuckGo is a very good alternative). I don’t have, and never had a facebook or twitter account. Actually, this is the closest I come to using social media. I turn off Bluetooth when I’m out and about.
Having said that, I’m sure that I’m being tracked somehow by some company or other.

Nah I'm cool without one

All this fear of how your movements can be used against you.... Like how?

For the majority of people whose lives involve going to work, walking the dog, going shopping.... What exactly can get used against them

Mobile phones, bank card usage etc can already build a picture of most peoples movements... All easily accessible records

But this sinister "used against you"... For the vast majority of people, how?

Credit score companies hold a lot about us, and there is not a lot we can do about that, unless you don’t have a bank account, use cash only and don’t require a mortgage or any other financial service.

However, even though I have nothing to hide, I’m not going to make information about me freely available if I can help it.

Credit Reference Agencies will only have details required to maintain your credit file.

Name, address, DoB, and credit history.

Majority of the public at some stage of their life will have to take out credit. Most have had a mobile phone, mortgage, HP (car) and a credit card.

I should be able to search dodgy pon sites without another soul knowing about it. Its my right.

Ever tried to have a w@nk while knowing the door wasn't locked and anyone could walk in at any minute? Its not so easy to finish when you're looking at the door and contemplating how it could swing open at any time.

Privacy means privacy.

How am I supposed to have a glorious w@nk when I'm worried about people who know I am on a pon site?
