I would say that the two people who most changed things were
Rosa Parks who quietly rode on a bus,
And Martin Luther King who preached change through non violence.
I am speaking as a white man so have never suffered any bias.
But it seems to me that a response like the current one invites whites to arm themselves against coming violence.
I think the best way forward is to gather every instance of police brutality and put it all over social media, pay if necessary to get it in the papers with a message like Paid to protect us
And be relentless about it.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
King died for trying to be peaceful, Malcolm X died for trying a different approach.
In recent times, African Americans tried to protest peacefully by taking the knee at football games and then they were totally shat upon from a great hight.
They can’t win, which is why this has all spilled over into violence. People are acting like the looting and rioting isn’t symptomatic of the constant abuse.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
i agree. I think in most people's heart of heart they already know which side they stand.
There are those that are supporting a reform without wanting to be the instigators of violence but accept it may atimes spill into violence. And there are those that will only support a reform if it is peaceful (replace that word with convenient for them).
This is not meant as disrespect as it is a normal human instinct.

The big problem here is the cycle and breaking it.
Every time the black communities get support from the white american and they got massive support over this, they then go and ruin it by violent protests and looting.
I told my Mrs this was going to happen four days ago. Same thing happened in Baltimore a few years back.
People will lose focus of the incident in question and just remember the rioting and looting. I can vaguely remember what the Baltimore one was over.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Violence from who? You mean like a race war? I don't think many white folk will feel like this tbh. Perhaps a minority.

It's a cop out as it isn't why BLM started. Some from their community may talk about black on black violence, yet there are others dealing with it. BLM came about because of police brutality and the lives of their communities seen as lower and treated automatically as criminals by those go are meant to keep people safe. It's a deflection tactic. It's ridiculous that people latch onto this like it needs discussing. If you truly want a discussion about it, why are you talking to people who do deal with this.

Of course. They would love it if everyone was like Luther. If all you'll do is cry every time another black man is assassinated, then you'll be crying very often for a loooooong time.
How many years are protests going to be peaceful only for them to murder another one after every few months?
Clearly they didn't get the message from the hundreds of peaceful protests that have gone before. Common sense dictates that as more are killed, temperatures start going up.
There is a limit to everything, even peaceful protests. How long can protests remain peaceful if there is no response? At some point you have to start asking the tough questions.
"But a man who doesn't have what is his, he can never think always in terms that are along peaceful lines."
-Malcolm X
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Malcolm x highlighted the same issue as Luther king but just different solutions. Malcolm felt violence and segregation was key. Luther disagreed. I share Luther views.
It's easy to say Luther created empathy and just tears but we bit know he laid down far more than that.
As killer mike said, burning down your houses isn't the answer
It's a vicous cycle that doesn't stop. Racism has decreased massively but there is still a long way to go. BLM protests/riots haven't changed anything. The fact the riots happened and the guy died are testament to that.
Integration and education combined with legislation are the answer. Setting stuff on fire and looting just feeds the far right movement and trolls imo.
If all them people that rioted donated a dollar they could've hired the best lawyer about and sought justice, whilst raising awareness that this isnt acceptable at the same time.
I won't pretend I don't understand why people felt the need to get violent but let's not pretend that violence is a new response. Usually its a sign if desperation and a cry for help but the scenes i saw, most were just setting their district on fire/ rioting and taking instagram/snapchats. I agree with the message just not the execution.
