The election became so tribal around Brexit that policy went out the window, Get Brexit Done won Boris the election not his MPs or their policies outside of a xenophobic lie.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
'We'll take back control of our borders' he proclaimed and we now have record numbers of immigrants in the Channel.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

And that’s the U.K.’s fault is it?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
well given many are from the middle east a region we have had such a positive influence in over the last x number of years.

yes
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Simply not true at all.

The EU rules state that immigrants claim asylum in the first acceptable country they land in.

Are these boats arriving direct from the Middle East now? If they are then fair play, they deserve whatever that want
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry Ginger that's not true.

https://fullfact.org/immigration/refugees-first-safe-country/

The EU rule is called the Dublin Regulation.

https://ec.europa.eu/home-affairs/what-we-do/policies/asylum/examination-of-applicants_en

Which we lose at the end of the year.

https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/home-affairs/immigration/what-is-the-dublin-iii-regulation-will-it-be-affected-by-brexit/

As such the UK will have to negotiate with each member state individually (notably France) who appear to have no appetite in doing so. We also lose access to Eurodac, (as well as SIS2 - EU security database) an EU wide database containing biometric data.

On arrival applicants have their fingerprints scanned, which provides border force with real time data. Going forward it will take much longer and will be far harder to process asylum cases.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yeah. Been corrected on the actual legality mate

I had that one wrong.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Hope all is well mate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

All good here thanks.

Managed to return all my people from furlough without them suffering any financial hits throughout. Been absolutely hectic with no signs of easing up into next year. We’ve been fortunate with additional government funding which we haven’t even seen coming through yet although we know what we’ve won.

The only concern of course is further damage down the supply chain which has already started with raw material price increases where manufacturing closed down and hasn’t properly kicked back in.

Hey ho. So far so good.

You and yours ok?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
That's good news about your staff.

Yeah, know a few people also waiting for gov funding to come through. I'm sure it's a nightmare.

All good thanks, was off work last week so was back to porridge this morning

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Hmmmm

I’m quite capable of forming my own opinions and don’t need to be “taught” by anyone.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Well seeing as you admit that you don't know asylum law or understand their motivations I have to disagree.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

So let me get this right

You have to disagree with what my opinions are without having not even the slightest inclination or idea whatsoever as to what indeed they are?

That even for this site is quite incredible. You are to be applauded sir

Outstanding.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

You've openly admitted that you don't know the law nor understand their motivations so your opinions are moot and redundant I'm afraid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

This just gets better and better.

You have no idea what my opinions are yet you now go so far as to declare them moot and redundant!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Yes, that's right. I know you have a major problem with how it's dealt with and I know you thoyght they should be there somewhere else. I also know you think it's not the UKs fault which means I also know you don't understand pur political and commercial foreign policy. I also know you're not well read on the subject as a result of all of that.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Oh dear oh dear oh dearie me

So much so completely wrong in such a short and ill informed paragraph.

You really are intent on making yourself look stupid. I’d like to think you’re not but you’re not helping to alleviate that thought.

Unlike your good self I’m prepared to give benefit of doubt and put it down to a short outburst.

You really have no idea what my opinions are at all so it’s maybe best you don’t continue to make things worse.

For the best really.

Except I literally didn’t.

Yes I mentioned things that you appear to have drawn conclusions from. Very wrong ones as it happens but hey ho.

And I freely admit to not completely knowing the legality on where asylum seekers should first plead their case. Again that happens.

Now. fwiw

Our immigration policy is an utter shambles and downright dangerous.

In my opinion (again fwiw) I believe we should have a proactive and caring approach to asylum seekers. I believe that as a nation we should make a commitment to take in certain numbers (I don’t know how many, but certainly far more than the 4 or 5 thousand being talked about).

It should be backed by a trackable back up so we know who arrives. They should be registered in our country and helped to find housing and work and keep everything legal. Above all it should be managed and maintained and immigrants should be encouraged to integrate freely into our societies up and down the country. No ifs and no buts.

They should be housed in good and adequate accommodation and given all the treatment they need. Again no ifs or buts.

After 3 years or so of hopefully successfully settling in and being able to look after themselves, citizenship on the way to being a U.K. passport holder with their immediate family joining them should be the goal.

We can argue over the timings all day long but while we have what appears to be a NIMBY attitude from far too many we only drive it into the arms of criminals and anger from people who really should know better.

There. For starters so don’t get me on the NHS/care in society issues or homelessness ok?

Good

I can see a return here to more stringent restrictions in the next few days due to an increase in cases.

If the schools do not open on September 01st, the economy here will literally collapse as a huge percentage of the workforce being able to return to work is dependent on it.

The crowding of immigrants over here in centers or as they like to call it "Direct Provision" is a disgrace and has led to a number of clusters of Covid.

The same unfortunate people were being warned by certain employers that if they do not show for work then they will lose their job.

Barstewards.

What's interesting is the increase in cases isn't translating into an increase in hospital admissions or deaths.

Well, not yet, anyway.

But no government would let it run without lockdown restrictions because of what happened earlier in the year - so decisions will be made based on case numbers.

There's so much no one knows the answers to.
