“As far back as I remember, I always wanted to be a gangster”
Henry Hill.
What do you vote for that last De Niro slog. So good i can't even remember what it was called.
Goodfellas i was obsessed with as a kid. That gets my vote.
Then Godfather and Bugsy Malone

Goodfellas is also my number one.
It usually comes down to Goodfellas or the Godfather, but the pace and styling of Goodfellas clinches it for me.
Tough call - between GF2 and Goodfellas .....
Probably Goodfellas just edges it 👍
Point of order. The Untouchables doesn't qualify for the 'gangster' genre because, while it features gangsters, it's primarily about the law enforcement perspective. 'Some Like it Hot' features gangsters in the plot but you wouldn't call it a a gangster movie. Redo the list! (There's two or three other Scorsese films you could stick in there for a start.)

Good call!
Casino
Mean Streets
The Departed (slightly contradicting my previous post)
Would we count 'Heat' as a gangster movie? It's organised crime, but it's not about traditional mafia, the relationships, etc. (Then again, nor is Scarface.) Either way, it's a superb film which, like Goodfellas, I can watch again and again.

Have a look at the list in the OP, some interesting choices, some I wouldn’t even consider Gangster Movies.

Yes we can count Heat.
The Untouchables, for me that shootout scene at the Train station is epic.
Surprised Casino is not on this list.

Can kind of add Casino in with Goodfella’s, they’re related!
Once Upon a Time in America is a boss film. Slightly long though but still...

How did The Departed not make the top 50 on that list?
Top would be The Godfather. I love No Country and The Sting but I don't view them as gangster movies.
Carlitos Way is excellent too.

Borderline awful tbh.

Then Heat absolutely should be there instead of The Untouchables! Both on genre and because it's a much better film.

Didn’t enjoy it as much as I hoped I would.
Just think maybe the Krays’ story isn’t interesting enough.
I used to watch Goodfellas and Mean Streets every week as a teenager. When Scorsese gets it right his films are so enjoyable.
For years I always thought the Departed was a poor remake of Infernal Affairs but then I watched Infernal Affairs again for the first time in years and it's aged pretty terribly. The ending of Infernal Affairs will always be better though.
Some great films on that list, Gomorrah, A Better Tomorrow, French Connection, Performance are bangers.
Not sure how American Friend or Point Break are gangster films, both great films though.
Lock Stock/Snatch are gangster movies too, no? Or are we sticking to Mafia only. If so, Godfather probably, though the sequel and Goodfellas run it close, as does Casino
