No club has a guaranteed place in the Premier League. What sort of nonsense is that? If United finished last on 10 points we'd be relegated.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Dont be naive. There are at least 10 clubs with no risk of relegation every season.

----------------------------------------------------------------------
Is there a mechanism in place that means they can be relegated? Yes, yes there is.

The fact they are unlikely to be relegated is down to their performances on the pitch.

This isn't difficult!
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I didnt say they couldn't be relegated did I.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But they can't in the Super League. Can't you see the difference?
----------------------------------------------------------------------

They cant for the first period. That might change after a while once its established.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
So you're in favour of it because they might change the rules to make it fairer in the future
----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm just tryingn to understand the concerns some have and to point out there are positives
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It's odd you can't understand the concerns when so many people are telling you the same thing
----------------------------------------------------------------------

The only concern appears to be that some clubs are guaranteed involvment which is deemed unfair, however if we are honest, that's already almost the case for most of them.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It is unfair, not deemed unfair.

No it wouldn’t have. Barca were still the second biggest team in Spain, even if they weren’t the second best team.

And it wasn’t 20 years ago so it’s moot. Barca are probably the most popular football team in the bloody world, of course they were going to be a permanent member.

What I did mean was a big club not performing as it's stature indicates it should. There's no doubt in my mind Barca should always be involved at the top table of course.

My point is this concept is so dumb because if you want the best teams in this god damn super league, an underperforming Barca team (insert Spurs, AC Milan, IDK) would not be the best value for product.

$$$$ driving this nonsense and I hate it.

Bayern munich have said no so not having the current champions league champions in it kind of makes it look stupid.

posted on 20/4/21

I agree the concept is dumb, but asking why Barca are in it is even more dumb. Barca are underperforming by their incredible standards, but will still probably come away having won the double this season. They are the most popular club in world football. No super league gets off the ground without a club like Barca involved.

Would it be better if I stick to questioning Tottenham's place in this? Or Atleti? Or Milan?

posted on 20/4/21

It would have more merit than questioning Barca’s inclusion. But again, these are currently, and historically, popular clubs. So it’s really not a surprise they are included - they want the most popular clubs in there.

And this is the bloody problem with it. As these popular clubs haven’t been deserving of dining at the top of the table in Europe due to their lack of sporting merit - Inter and Milan, in particular, have been a joke for the last decade nearly.

Anyway, until we know all the facts I won't decide how I feel about it, however I can see some positives to it (huge sums of money to clubs and UEFA being took to task)
----------------------------------------------------------------------
But the money is limited to 15 teams, dont you see that is the problem????

You are the thickest person I have ever met, you and Culer. Fack me.

Yep, but so are Valencia and Roma, I believe. Not hard to work out why those two aren’t in it and Barca are.

RDD.

Imagine for a second you are a Leicester fan. Your team has spent the last few years steadily building a really good team. It's good enough to get into the Champions League, compete with the best on the continent and get the prize money which comes with it.

All of a sudden a load of clubs who don't like that you've done this have formed a Super League. You'll miss out on the regular income that comes with it because you're not glamorous enough. But Arsenal, a club that have spent the last few years being run horrendously, get in unconditionally because they were more successful over some arbitrary period of history.

And no, the 'extra 5' places aren't much consolation when Arsenal could finish 17th every season and still receive a ridiculous sum of money for it.

That's it really. If you don't understand why that will make teams absolutely furious and destroy the fabric of the sport, I dont really know what else to say.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Imagibe you are Leicester and you are told by WBA and Sheffield Utd you can't participate in a super.league worth £350m per season because WBA and Sheff Utd think its unfair.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Thaught you weren't RDD
