It was a strange game for sure last weekend. A number of people I work with are Villa season ticket holders and they couldn’t believe the outcome of the game as they felt they were on for a routine win with ten minutes left. While all around me in the away end people were getting totally frustrated that we hadn’t bought Jimenez on earlier in the second half as we just didn’t look like getting back into it. Funny old game

In his press conference today Bruno confirmed that Boly missed the Villa game with an injury and he will not be available tomorrow either. Trincao has recovered from covid and will be available.

He gave some kind of update on Neto but it seems they are still not clear when he will return. He did suffer a setback and has gone to see a specialist in Portugal and the Wolves doctor will go there to see him next week when his length of absence should become clearer

It did look like it would be a routine win at that point and they did collapse to some degree. The thing I have found following that result, is how little credit Wolves have been given though.

Villa had edged the game up till that point, but Wolves did have chances to score in the first half. The second Villa goal came from a mistake and then a deflection. It wasn't like they were brilliant up till that point.

Yet the majority of analysis is about how Villa lost it and the substitutions that they made. There is nothing about the impact of Podence in finding space. Or the attacking mindset we went to with Traore at left wing back, where he then went on to create the chances for both goals. Nothing about the pressure Wolves put on to get back in the game (there was actually a feeling at 75 minutes that if we scored then it was going to nervy for Villa).

I'm not sure whether that is a bad thing. It keeps us under the radar to some degree. Most of it is probably because loads of pundits have Villa down as a favourite to break the top six (I think they would do well to maintain a top half finish). However, you just know that if that had been a different team, the analysis would be on how a team won the game and not just how the losing team lost.

I don't think playing conservatively has been the reason for us picking up results. We have just been more clinical in recent games and are putting away a higher percentage of chances.

We didn't concede loads of goals when playing the more exciting football. We averaged conceding one per game, which is our average in the games since as well. You'd think if we can continue being more clinical now confidence is higher and start playing the higher press football of the first few games, we will actually start to improve more.

Agree with this completely. Seen a lot of talk of us having to change our style from the early games due to results but i just don't buy that at all.

Our style had absolutely nothing to do with losing those first three games at all, not even a little bit.

The Villa defence had looked suspect all game, especially Tuanzebe who looked a real donkey, but we rarely put them under any pressure. In the latter stages, particularly after Podence came on, we did pressure them, and they fell apart.

Absolutely spot on Tam. Sadly, if we were a big 6 team the story would have about a magnificent comeback not a collapse by Villa.

Leeds will have Raphina back in their team after injury tomorrow but Kalvin Philips and Bamford are still out

I totally agree with your analysis Tam. Not enough credit for the team, subs and how we turned the game around by some on here.

I do wish that some would get out of the habit of thinking we are a weakened team if Jimenez isn't playing.

Went put a huge amount of pressure on Villa after our substitutions and that changed the game. Villa simply couldn't cope, so well done Bruno.

By the way...Tino, you forgot the Everton score.

Villa getting outplayed at Arsenal tonight. Gunners playing well to be fair

posted on 22/10/21

I don't think anyone has said it wasn't a great comeback and we really went at them the last 15 minutes to snatch the three points.

That doesn't make any criticism unwarranted though. Bruno got a few things wrong last weekend and for me he waited too long to make changes regardless of the final outcome.

I’ve heard some are in the habit of thinking that Villa are a weakened team without Grealish. Imagine that, a team missing its best player! 🥷🏾

Nice incentives for winning tomorrow. We would go 5 points ahead of Villa. And we could go above Man Utd

No Neves though.

Mick lost again. 8 defeats in a row and scored in just one of those eight games. As bad as it gets. Last game presumably.
