So who would you prefer

As much as it disgusts me to agree with you, I’d not only pick Ashley from that list, he’d be my ideal if we aren’t to be annexed by some oil-rich Sheikh.

He’s not left Newcastle worse off than he found them, he was a sensible owner who didn’t get carried away with ego or heed the crowds too much, and he knows the game.

I don’t like the American investor model as seen at United and Liverpool, and I think above all we now need a period of stability for the club. I’d take it rather than fold obviously, but I’m not convinced that they understand the game here.

go ask a Newcastle fan about how they on Ashleys ownership.

He'll pick the bones and take the heart out of your club.

Not too many bones left to pick. Given where we are I’d take any of them. I just don’t want another megalomaniac sugar daddy with a deluded hero complex, so anyone who comes in with an objective business like approach is OK by me. At least I wouldn’t fear for the club’s destruction under Ashley, he doesn’t seem to do failure in his business dealings.

But Newcastle supporters believe they should win the Champions League every year and not doing so is abject failure. They hounded out a better manager than they have now.

With the state that we are in, we need a no-nonsense businessman to get us on an even financial keel. I hope we keep the Academy but it could become a casualty. If it does prove to be Ashley I wonder whether he is buying with the idea he could get us into the Premiership with him as owner, or whether he would look to stabilise and sell at a tidy profit after a couple of years.

I just want someone to buy us and we can worry about where we go afterwards.

I'd prefer Ashley out of the bunch.

Lets hope we can complain about him not spashing £100m on the next Ronaldo in six months time.

For all Ashley's many faults he has run a tight ship at Newcastle for a long time despite the clamour of fans for him to spend money the club didn't have. As any owner of a NE club knows, you have to pay top dollar for 2nd best.

Okay fine I'll be anti Ashley, for all the positives highlighted it must also be remembered that he:

Changed the name of the stadium from Byker Grove ( St James Park) to Sports Direct for personal gain, ignoring the pleas and protests of fans.

Parliamentary inquiry accused Ashley of running Sports Direct like a Victorian workhouse using "appalling working practices" and treated "workers as commodities rather than as human beings. ( I wouldn't be surprised to hear similarly murmurings about his management style with Derby staff. I also can't see Ashley and Rooney hitting it off long term)

He gave Alan Pardew an EIGHT YEAR contract , appointed Joe Kinnear as a Newcastle manager and had Dennis Wise as a board member.

Jonas Gutierrez's disability discrimination lawsuit (cancer related) that the Argentine won against Ashley.

Newcastle have been relegated THREE times under Ashley's ownership.

I see lots of similarities between Morris and Ashley. They're both wealthy with a similar approach to staff resulting in being detested by their colleagues.

Poor management decisions throughout their time. Newcastle should not be getting relegated that many times if the club was handled professionally. By blowing everyone else out of the water in the Championship, retaining a lot of the PL calibre were the reasons why Newcastle went straight back up again culminating in Ashley's 'success'

We are at the point of 'beggars can't be choosers' but if we had the opportunity to choose I'd go with Appleby.

Sobering reflections, Desi and it's good to be reminded of past events. But at the end of the day we fans will have to like and lump whoever it may be and be grateful, otherwise we're done for.

Under 18s have just tonked Leeds. Some terrific forward players but no commentary and no names on shirts so I can't give any more info. One lad in particular scored 2, maybe 3 and looked strong, quick and athletic. Also quite tall.

HB Fash, when you are dying of thirst you will accept the offer of a drink of water from anyone, and postpone the debate about the ethics of how he came by it until another day.

Nah, I am with Fash, run a mile, the man is a grade A cvnt.

'SD board meetings amounted to taking over the local pub and drinking ourselves into oblivion. At one, Mike vomited into the fireplace and retook his seat and just carried on.'

Is that what you want running your club?

Perhaps I should explain. I am the greatest admirer of Ang, arguably our greatest poster, but have previously noted a trend. Ang (and Vidal) are keen and respected observers of our Academy prospects.

Ang however has got slightly carried away (attention seeking), and now invents players with improbable names.

Thanks Ang. Yes, an interesting name and I have no doubt it's correct as is Dante Cassanova! Watched highlights on You Tube. If we can keep the Academy all should be well.

I’m not sure a Rangers fan is in any position to give us advice on owners.

Personally I’d have Ashley in a heartbeat, as 666 said Newcastle fans are like entitled surfers, we need stability and with the 3 groups mentioned, he fits the bill as Appleby has history and binnies should be just that, binned.

posted on 25/1/22

Out of curiosity, did Appleby do something that I might not be aware of?

Under his stewardship we weeded out the high earners and brought in a squad on a lean budget. Reduced our wage bill and expenses and started small steps in the right direction.

Sam Rush can be regarded as an issue for reasons that have been mentioned previously, but I thought Appleby did the job required of him at the time?

Mike Ashley please. He's not going to be a sugar Daddy, he's run Newcastle....ok not as well as the Magpies fans would like - but he has a track record over here. I'd place Andy Appleby in 2nd place. The 3rd....they're Venture Capitalists aren't they......so at the end of the day they'll definately want their pound of flesh out of us at some point and sell for a profit.
I do think that all football fans - Newcastle included want a Man. City type owner who just wants to splash cash....but that's not going to happen is it. I just think Ashley is best of the bunch....and he did leave Newcastle in the Premiership.

On another note picked up by Chicago I did watch the U18's stick 5 past Leeds. It;s available on YouTube and also dcfc.co.uk I tend to watch both the U23's and U18's regularly. The U18's at times can resmble kids football a bit, but they are moulding a physically strong side and there is some talent in there too. The U23's have been hit by many of their team now in the 1st team....which in many ways is good....and what Uncle Mel dreamed of. I note that Jordan Brown left for Leyton Orient (I think) yesterday. A good U23 but never felt he was quite the calibre for 1st team....so a good move for him.

Anyway, hope this sorry mess we've found ourselves in gets sorted this week.....UTR

In normal times I wouldn’t want Ashley but it’s just about survival. Appleby would be fine by me as well, I just think that with Ashley we might get a quicker reboot from which we might move forward again.
