Or just pick Compton and Brook. The two in form batsmen this season.

I'd personally have Burns ahead of Lees (and obviously Compton ahead of Crawley), but appreciate this is a more controversial opinion.

Crawley is clearly more of a #5/6 bat in terms of skillset and playstyle, but given that he's never batted there it's hard to argue for his inclusion ahead of the likes of Brook or Hain.

Either way Compton and Brook should definitely be the next cabs off the rank. The only asterisk in Compton's column is the fact that he's basically brand new to first class cricket despite his age - VERY late bloomer - but I actually think that might help his career because he's not a young, overly hyped youngster. He's a guy who will appreciate whatever chances he gets and he'll take them damn seriously.

Got the wicket

I like Leach but he seems to have very little wicket taking ability outside Asia or pitches built for spin.

Think Parkinson needs a run to see what he can do with Leach being second choice.

May come back to bite me this but I think the lack of a quality spinner in both sides will ensure this will end in a draw

I've never rated Leach to be honest. I think that he has got by from being cult figure, from that one run in the ashes and the 92 he hit as a nightwatchmen.

He isn't very threatening as a spinner and doesn't build pressure as he is easy to hit out of the attack. I actually thought Bess was better than him, but Root didn't seem to trust Bess to bowl.

I see Leach as an example that cliques are generally present in all levels of cricket and if you can get in one, you'll likely get picked ahead of others regardless.

I don't usually credit the opponents but Mitchell looks a talent

I wouldn't necessarily say he was part of the clique. He was constantly in and out of the side with Root and Silverwood picking Mo over him whenever possible.

I think he's been mismanaged and been unlucky with injuries but with someone like Parkinson in the wings it's time for him to step aside.

This all out attack from both teams, although naive is creating a great test series to watch.

Strange cricket

Bizarre. I'm gonna have to revise my earlier prediction

That was a shocker. Mitchell has been dreadful this test apart from his batting

Shame we couldn’t have score 600 today. Those extra 60 runs would’ve been really useful

Leach is a step and fetch it, he couldn`t bowl out the under 13`s

Going into day five with all results possible. This will send that utter dimwit Sandy over the edge.

I enjoyed that finally we had some proper Test Match cricket, until the last hour, when it reverted back to silly one day stuff, where wickets were thrown away.

Sandy, I apologize for insulting dimwits.

Bit like spurs then? they thrown everything away

Thing is, with 1 day and an hour's play left, the team losing the series kind of have to play it like a one day match to have a chance of winning

Considering the state of the pitch, it's the one day style stuff that has largely led us to actually getting any sort of results other than a draw.

With only 15 wickets falling in the first 3 days, a draw looked like the only possible result. Both teams look to be committing to trying to win though through the scoring of quick runs. I mean Root reverse ramped a seamer for 6 ffs that's not test match cricket but it's entertaining.

Personally I think England have played this wrong, they should have been looking to go well beyond NZ but went ultra aggressive in the first session. However NZ are doing us a favour by going for the win themselves. Could be a cracking final day especially If NZ can push their lead close to 300 with us having maybe 75ish overs to chase it.

I would sooner an honourable draw, than just turning the last day of a Test Match into a one day run chase. Already far to much one day nonsense cricket.
