What Ronaldo did last season was incredible for a 36/37 year old as an individual however I find if very hard to make any case for us being a better side with him in the team.

Although this is all hypothetical and conjecture, I think that last season we would have been worse without him. There’s more to suggest this than to suggest that we would have been better.
Now if the rest of our team / squad all had good, and some, great seasons then I think we could debate whether Ronaldo affects our overall play negatively to such an extent greater than the impact of his individual point-winning contributions/goals. I don’t think our players would have been much better if we didn’t have Ronaldo last season and had Martial / Rashford / Sancho up top.
That leads me to a query that I’ve not seen much discussion of pertaining to the Greenwood situation - how much of an effect do we think that had? Not only by him not playing but the actual circumstances, that it’s still ongoing etc, let alone what rumours or knowledge the players might have about it.
I have no issue with Ronaldo being with us next season if he is and why I feel that way is:
1. If there is a player that will still give the same maximum effort of professionalism, dedication, drive, desire & hunger; it’s Ronaldo. Probably more so than any other player in history.
2. I personally don’t think that his flaws (pressing / tracking back / ego / tantrums) are strong enough to be a net negative over his contributions (which I expect to be similar next season)
3. I think that the rest of the team will be much better than last season, that’s not exactly difficult but if that is the case then others will contribute more, assist him even more and his flaws will become less prominent. He’s never been one to press particularly, ever. But if the rest of the team are quality AND put an extra 10% to make up for him then you get something like the Real teams he played with. Was the same for us in the Rooney Ronaldo Tévez combo.
The main issue will clearly be that a key part of the press is winning the ball back quickly and up top - which is where he is. If this breaks down due to him then I think ETH will bench him occasionally
