Wonder what Ait-Nouris injury is?

Would play him ahead of Bueno if fit, no doubt about it at all but Bueno certainly looks promising.

Either way both would be ahead of Jonny.

Big question will be what set up the next manager wants to go with. Presumably 3 at the back is out the window with the options we have.

Gem - "Podence still trying too many tricks and flicks that rarely work."

Was going to mention this at the weekend. Against Forest Podence must have made about half a dozen successful passes, but 4 or 5 of them were flicks backwards. Almost the same today. Not quite sure what to make of it.

closest game to me and missed first 30 minutes, just caught our goal, can’t stand the stadium- rubbish view, pillars, fans still largely supportive , outplayed second half but tried to the end, can only imagine Adama tired or injured no reason otherwise to take him off

Anyone feel like our fitness levels have dropped a touch since Bruno came in?

More than a touch, we were competitive against forest for most of the game and in the first half tonight but most sides have been quicker and stronger than us over 90 minutes this season.

What I like about Podence is that he does try the unorthodox, tries to be different to unlock space and get people in to good positions. Doesn't always come off but it won't if you're trying the difficult stuff. Much rather that than the far too predictable play from the rest of our forwards and midfielders.

This 100%.

Folks complain we don't look threatening in the final third and complain we tippy tappy left and right but then want one of the few creative players to just knock it left and right.

PS. This isn't really aimed at anyone here by the way but Podence is getting slated on MM every week.

Some of the nonsense after defeat is hilarious by the way. One guy just said ''what does McCoist know about finishing'' after somebody said he was critical of Silvas effort first half

This is ugly to watch. The lack of effort from Semedo at the end is staggering.

Agree about Selhurst Park, the worst in the Premier League for viewing for away fans. And I thought it was a poor decision to take Adama off who looked the most likely to make things happen for us. It was good to see him get in on the back post for his goal, something our wide forwards so rarely do. To me if we are attacking on the left, the right sided forward should be looking to get in a scoring position for the final ball and vice versa. When Bueno’s great cross came in we actually had three players trying to get on the end of it. Unheard of

Ultimately it was defending that cost us last night with Semedo the culprit. Such a talented player who has the ability to be first on the team sheet every week. But he has been caught out many times by not tracking attackers and not marking tightly. He was at fault for both Palace goals last night. Didn’t stay close to Eze, the player he was earmarked to watch, for the first goal. And half heartedly tracked Zaha for the second.

Davis - On the triple substitution

“We had to. Adama was a doubt before, a little injury that might get worse, but he was important to how we were going to play, and I thought he was excellent first-half. Obviously, you don’t want to take a player off that’s causing problems, so it’s frustrating, but we had to do it. He’s done his course of time and couldn’t have done any more.

“Bouba was booked and hasn’t completed 90 minutes, so was fatiguing massively, and we thought we needed some legs in the middle of the pitch. Matheus got a bang on the head which was something we needed to look at.”

Fair enough.

Disappointing to lose last night, but all things considered satisfactory performance.

Eze wasn't his man to stay close to. B. Traore was tracking him and let him run on.

I think those explanations of the subs is reasonable, but a bit of a surprise we made 3 in one go.

Moutinho helped us in the latter stages because Palace were dominating the ball and he helped us wrestle the game back from them and lead to us putting them on the back foot at times. Hodge didn't do as well last night but he is still very inexperienced. Guedes is still struggling to make his mark, but he was a good player in Spain and it will come. Hopefully a new manager will help him. And Hwang was Hwang, achieving very little.

This is the kind of thing that annoys me about our fans. We have certain players that we look to exonerate and others we look to blame for anything we can.

For the first, Semedo deserves a bit of blame for not having his body open; but the main cause is the poor communication from B. Traore and the passing of a man. He deserves a bit of criticism for the second; but Kilman's missed interception was pathetic and the main cause of Zaha being completely open on goal.

Kilman is always exonerated for his errors though and people want B. Traore to be the saviour; so Semedo gets all the pelters as he is a chief boo boy.

It's the same with Guedes elsewhere. It's like people want him to fail. He's getting pelters for last night despite the fact he created two good chances when coming on with two decent balls into the box.

Podence is another one who gets criticised for trying to make something happen, usually by the same people who complain about slow and sideways passing.

I'm pretty sure we'll have the people who always criticise RAN going down the route that Bueno is better than him now, based on one game.

Was thinking exactly the same Cinci. Nuno and his team seemed to really get the team to excellent levels of fitness throughout the 90 minutes. Also we now seem to have more injuries and that they drag on for longer.

posted on 19/10/22

I think it's difficult to tell on fitness levels. Nuno's system was based on holding a shape and I think we always trended in the lowest teams for distance run.

It could just be that the fitness levels were never there, so when trying to move away from that it's become noticeable and we've never built it up to higher level.

posted on 19/10/22

What’s most worrying about fitness and injury levels is that the players who have had long term injuries are just not getting back to being the players they previously were. We’ve seen this now with Jimenez, Neto and Jonny and there has to be a concern about Chiquinho and Kalajdzic. That’s a lot of talent that may be lost to the club forever

Just looking at the latest betting on being our next manager. Beale, Nuno and Bosz are the three favourites now but none of them are a low price. Truth is that at the moment nobody seems to know what is going to happen. With our two temps doing a half decent job it could be that the club feel the urgency has been taken away and that they can afford to wait until the World Cup break before making an appointment

posted on 19/10/22

Have our two temps done a decent job? We've won 1 in 3 and that was against the bottom team through a penalty. Could easily have been draw had Forest scored their penalty.

Other than that, we have still looked like a team with no real identity and we're outplayed last night.

Just watching the video again of the penalty appeal we had for a handball against Guehl yesterday. His arm stopped the ball going across the area and was stretched out from his body. Thought that met all the criteria for a penalty but VAR this time said no

It's looking more like it could be Michael Beale who is the new boss.

Brave appointment if so. Could either be a great success in the Graham Potter mould or a complete failure. Let's hope for the former.

I'll support him if he comes in but Beale feels like an absolutely insane appointment to me for where we are. We've literally just sacked someone who was a coach and, it turns out, nothing else.we are partly in this position because clipboard 2.0 weighted tactics as everything and totally neglected to ensure we retained any leadership or fight within the team.

We need someone with the gravitas to be able to shake out of Fosun the squad depth we DESPERATELY need, and to persuade Neves and Traore to sign new contracts. The profile of Beale makes him sound like an amazing coach but that's just one part of the job. We're also in a relegation fight! Do we really want to appoint someone in his fifteenth game as manager. I hope he does brilliantly and part of me applauds them trying something different and would wholeheartedly welcome it in different circumstances, but this feels very dangerous to me.

posted on 19/10/22

I'm not sure. A lot of the other names come with baggage or have sketchy histories. In a way, I'd prefer for us to go for someone on the way up with new ideas.

Not sure whether now is the right time to take this risk though with our current position.

posted on 19/10/22

It’s a gamble no doubt about that. And that’s something I said when Zenga, Nuno and Lage were appointed which shows gambles of this sort can be inspired or a catastrophe. Everyone says he is a top coach but a manager involves so much more. Maybe it’s an argument for us having a Director of Football but that doesn’t always work and maybe that’s what Scott Sellars is.

Beale has a release clause in his contract so Wolves will meet that and QPR then can’t stop it happening. They are at home to Cardiff tonight, whether he will be in the dugout for that time will tell
