You had to throw that in about Messi and Ronaldo. You just cant help yourself.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
It’s a fair comment by someone who has allegedly watched them all play.

RIP Pele. A footballing Legend.

I have filtered him. He is trying to cause an argument on the day that Pele has passed on. Shameful.

Yes, a true icon, legend and ambassador for football.

We can debate all night if he is the greatest ever, personally I think Maradona is, but that debate has been done to death already and is for another day.

RIP

Sandy, why was Pele so good? Talk to me. Was he a better finisher than Greaves? I’m intrigued

My Grandad always said whilst Pele was probably the greatest player ever, Jimmy Greaves was the greatest finisher of all time. Nobody better.

Don, Pele scored over 1,000 club goals, won three world cups. Greavsie was the greatest ever British goalscorer, and gave me some of the best moments in watching Spurs.

But Pele was different gravy.

Pele was the absolute nuts. Was such a hard player to stop. He always seemed to find a way to score. When ever he played people always stood to attention; he could literally keep going all night long.

Nobody is taking his death harder than me. Need something to ease the pain - a pill or two of mycoxaflopin should do.

Rest in peace big man.

I remember I went out with a girl and it turns her dad was ex Plymouth and Portsmouth striker Ritchie Reynolds.
He also played in the USA in Harlem and he played against Pele , he showed me a book with Pele on the cover and he was trying to tackle him , the book was also signed by Pele as he had to get he’s permission to use him on the cover.

Whether he is the greatest is debatable. For me it’s probably Messi but people will have their own opinion. However an unbelievable player and a legend.

RIP

Maybe he should get it valued now

I agree with Sandy, Pele achieved everything in a period when some players were just thugs, the old phrase comes to mind “The ball might go past me, the player might go past me but not at the same time”.
Most managers used to tell their full backs in the days we had flying wingers, make sure you lump him early and put him off his game.
Referees were more lenient (also fairly unfit) and to get a booking you almost had to put a player in row z.
Pele was brutalised in the 1966 World Cup and got little or no protection from the referees.

He was powerful yet graceful. Lethal with either foot, and gained amazing heights when jumping to head a ball. Gordon Banks made an amazing save in the 1970 Mexico WC from a Pele header that has been labelled one of the greatest of all time. Pele sought him out after the game to shake his hand.
Pele was genuinely nice and always had time for fans.
I have had the pleasure of seeing Pele, Greaves, Maradona, both Ronaldos & Messi live. Difficult to separate them in all honesty, but because he achieved what he achieved under rougher conditions from the others, apart from Greaves, I think he just shades the GOAT badge for me.

I love Pele and I had him #1 all-time until Messi won the Qatar WC.

But this fallacy that he won 3 World Cups has to stop.

In ‘62 he only played the 1st game: then got injured and Brazil won it without him.

So he only actually won 2 WCs.

I’ve still got him #2 all time

RIP Pele... The guy was an Icon and an ambassador for his country ! The debate about the greatest ever doesn't really matter on days like today. It's so difficult to compare era's... Pele, to Maradona, to Messi... but Pele was the original who changed everything about the game... Sad Day

Playing one game still entitled him to a winners medal by modern standards, where an Argentina player 2022 got a WC winners medal for playing two minutes.

So yes he won three WC winners medals, and was the greatest player of all time.
