If they get found guilty, could we possibly have a case to sue Man City or even the PL for the occasions we finished 5th and missed out on CL money?
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes not just us, any team that has finished 5th in a season where they have broke the rules and qualified for the CL.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

If this is true, it opens up a big can of worms. Doesn't give the EPL much incentive to punish City given that they will have a big mess to deal with afterwards with all the legal claims from other clubs.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Even relegated clubs will claim that they've lost hundreds of millions as a consequence of losing a crucial game against City during a dogfight. The court cases will never end. It's just not going to happen. No way the PL will open that door.

Sadly you're probably right.

City are a financially doped that club that already had a massive advantage. That they had to breach the rules over 100 more times to gain an even bigger advantage is very serious stuff.

Nothing will happen this season, but the authorities need to throw the book at them. Fines and points deductions will be useless on their own. They need to be demoted down to the bottom rung of the football pyramid, ie League 2, with say a 25 points deduction to start a season, and a five year transfer ban. That is the only way the punishment will fit the crime.

For far to long these financially doped sides have been allowed to ride roughshod over the rest of the leagues, pushing up transfer prices and wages to ridiculously high fees, so that only one or two can possibly compete.

Time to put a stop to it once and for all, and get back to what football used to be A SPORT ON A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD.

I think what is important here is that City havent solely been accused of breaching the odd rule, which attracts the usual financial sanctions and sets a requirement that you get on the right course,....they have actually actively sought to cover up their actions and have refused to cooperate.

Its like being caught speeding...naughty boy, a fine and some points. City have been caught speeding, but they've refused pull over and they've sped off and this offence is way more serious than going 45mph in a 40 zone.
----------------------------------------------------------------------

They have breached over 100 rules, so this is very, very serious stuff, and absolutely no way City are now going to get away with just a slap on the wrist.

In the same way as the unfortunate CL clubs the teams who missed out on the Europa by one place won't be happy either.

They can deal with City separately quite easily. Any legal claims from other clubs would probably only be financial, and they could easily be dealt with separately, however many of them their were.

It happened in Scotland with Rangers, so why would it not happen in England with City? Rangers were demoted right down to the bottom of the leagues.

You cannot just not go after a club, because their may be other legal complications down the line. You have to do what is absolutely right. Otherwise nobody would ever be brought to justice for their crimes.

The PL would never go that extreme imo because they'll be saying goodbye to millions and millions of pounds and also they don't want to open up Pandoras box either

Are there any other fellow accountants here who have looked at City’s financial statements in recent years and noticed anything untoward, like unusual accounting policies?

I’m intrigued to take a look but can’t be bothered going through pages of info….

I don't trust the Prem to do a thing.

Not long before they were telling us that Newcastles new owners were fine they were wetting their paints over the ESL.

They are a bunch of hypocrites who aided and abetted by Sky only care about whats good for their product.

Why would they be saying goodbye to millions of pounds? City are just one club, another club will take their place in the Prem. The Premiership will still function very well without City, as it did when they were in the 3rd tier not so long ago.

The Prem must absolutely not bottle this. They must do the right thing for the integrity of the game. Let City get away with over 100 breaches of the rules, then anything goes, and they won`t have a leg to stand on.

I think this time they know they have to really punish City to have any credibility.

I completely agree that if guilty of this the punishment should be severe but as I and others have said it throws open a huge can of worms in terms of retrospective trophy awards and compensation for CL/Europa campaigns that never happened.

For some reason we go really easy on financially doped clubs in this country, in Germany Red Bull Leipzig are detested by the rest of the Bundesliga.

It is such an easy thing to take all City`s trophies away. You award the team that came 2nd the titles, and the teams they beat in finals, the cups. Compensation awards would be easy for clubs that never made the European places.

It really couldn`t be simpler. Then we all move on.

To ignore all these breaches would be ridiculous and stupid by the authorities.

Don't get too excited.

Even if the prem do all that they can to pursue this, City will just go crying to their friends as CAS to bail them out.

It’s been reported that CAS can’t consider any appeal as it’s a domestic issue, different to UEFA.

I think the major concern for the PL here, is that whatever they choose to do will set a new precedent.

They can't go easy on City & then all in on the next club to break FFP.

If they go too soft on City it will be open season for the rich clubs to ignore any FFP rules going forward.

You mean an independent court, not a panel made up of people from rival clubs?
