BCS edges it

I’d have to probably say BCS too, El Camino was a pile of shiiit and could’ve ruined the shows reputation too.

Yeah El Camino is ok at best, doesn't add anything to the universe, but at the same time I wouldn't say crap, just not worth a mention alongside BB and BCS

Breaking Bad is easily better, BCS is decent, but a lot slower and only really an interesting show if you’re already invested because of watching Breaking Bad. I like BCS, but BB is definitely superior and anything comment to suggest otherwise is probably just recency bias.

Neither are as good as The Sopranos or Mad Men though.

Though I loved both, BB is comfortably superior IMO.

I think BB maybe has bigger highs, but BCS was more consistently good throughout its run

BB was elite while BCS was very good

Not seen much of BCS, but without BB (seen it all 3 times), BCS would have been a non starter, despite it being good.

So you cant really compare them.

BB for me, BCS was seriously boring for large parts. Pretty sure they kept putting in loops of Saul brushing his teeth eating breakfast etc every facking episode.

Enjoyed BCS but it's not as good as BB.
BCS ended really annoyingly as well. It was so good near the end, and then the final few episodes just steered off a cliff.

I've actually never seen either but from the ads and what I've heard of the shows I think I would like bcs more.

BB was astonishingly goid but I think with BCS you see Vince Gilligan as a more accomplished storyteller given total artistic freedom. BB relied in part on the stakes being life-and-death and the plot racing along fast. For me BCS was even more compelling, even though often the jeopardy consisted in relatively mild stakes such as sibling rivalry. There's a richness of characterisation you don't get in BB. It's funnier and more poignant, and as said above, when the world of the Salamancas and Frings does explode into violence, it's all the more shocking.

As for the suggestion that BCS only derives interest / value as an offshoot of BB, I wouldn't agree. The main characters aren't central to BB so you're not especially emotionally invested in them from the outset. Sure, there are rewards for BB fans, as certain characters and references emerge, and it's valuable to know the end point the whole show is working toward. But that doesn't mean it's inferior. It's an incredible achievement.

BB is a better show and it’s not even close. A lot of the first 4 seasons of BCS are big struggles to get through. That being said the final season is better than anything BB came up with, some of the episodes are the best thing ever put on TV.

BCS is absolutely amazing but Breaking Bad is better IMO.

BB is consistently good, only one bad episode I can remember’the fly’, the later series of BCS get near to BB, but overall BB is still the Gold standard.

BB for me

Starts slowly, allowing us to build a rapport with the main character. Then moves onto pressure under which the character starts to feel. Then to move to the dark side at first with ack of know how, building some sympathy with this character then picks up speed when the feds are involved, then turns into admiration when the character becomes the negative version of himself, and gets involved in running the criminal activities. Brilliant stuff!

Yeah, me too. Tried to get into it two times.

Loved Breaking bad, couldn't get into Better call Saul

BB for me, though I agree with others about BCS being a slow burner - Compulsive viewing when it finally got going.

The Wire.

Couldn’t call them apart. Breaking Bad is obviously legendary as everyone knows but Better Call Saul is easily its equal.

I gave BCS a season and had no desire to watch the rest. Everyone keeps telling me to stick with it, but nah, it didn't do enough for me. I understand it gets better though.

I was in the same boat but stuck with it and didn’t regret it …..it can drag in the early season or two but there is enough (just) to keep it going but by season 3 I was hooked

Breaking bad had me hooked early so for that I think it’s better and the Walter white character and the acting is superb

I’ve rewatched breaking bad a few times and still enjoy it but would probably never re watch bcs as good as it was
