He tore apart the bestest, kloppiest team ever in the entire and whole universe just a couple of days ago, so it was inevitable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Tore apart. Apart from one lucky dribble he did nothing else and got dragged off when you were losing.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Huge chomp there by one of the biggest chumps on the site.

No where near ready enough for international football. Another daft decision from Southgate.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
While I don't agree with calling him Mainoo up so soon I'm not sure I agree that he's not ready. International football is generally a level below the majority of PL games.

He'll probably get a late sub appearance to lock him into playing for England, as he is also eligible to play for Ghana
----------------------------------------------------------------------
No offence to Ghana but I doubt anyone good enough to play for England will choose to play for Ghana.

It also doesn't make a difference and they're friendlies.

Ability wise he's already ready. It's more the maturity I think he's getting at and I agree tbh. It's probably too soon but sometimes when you have a player with that quality the U21's is ultimately pointless.

Whilst true, the pressure of an international tournament is exponentially higher.

When you look at our other midfield options (aside from Rice and Bellingham) I think he's more good enough to be among them. I think there's a question around him endurance-wise atm - he tends to fade as games go on. In fairness, so does the rest of the team, but Ten Hag usually takes him off before 90 minutes.

We know at least 3 of this squad won't be on the plane to Germany though - I suspect he'll be one of them.

Harsh on Barkley, though.

Not sure if it’s been mentioned already but I think they’re trying to make sure he goes with England and not Ghana.

Plus we don’t really have any deep lying midfielders.

Daft comment, he was superb against Liverpool and that’s a far better opponent than anybody you’ll face at international level.

It’s a couple of friendlies not the final Euros squad. No harm at having a look at him train.

I don’t think Southgate would call him up to the seniors due to that, to be fair.

It is a fine line with our youngsters. We need to toughen him up so he doesn't go off and feed hungry kids like woke Rashford did. But at the same time don't go too hard on him that he goes home and beats his bird as a result like Greenwood who then got cancelled by the woke brigade.

It’s odd he wasn’t initially called up for that, though. Though I guess we may yet see someone drop out with injury and Southgate has tended to draft someone in from the u21s as cover/when they’ve impressed with the group at St. Georges.

I disagree.

Direct quote from Jordan Henderson: "The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing, and I don't fancy boys".

See, you do have a deep, lying midfielder.

Sensationalist statement.

Why would his parents be spitting feathers if he holds British citizenship to the UK through birth? He is a dual national and no doubt considers himself English through citizenship to play for England. I'm sure he considered Ghana but has opted for England. I'm also certain his closest family members were consulted before he made the decision, where's the issue?!

Not read the comments yet but it’s brilliant for his confidence, development, etc. and as you say OP, he probably won’t get a chance to get injured.

Fair play to the kid. That dribble was a beautiful moment.

As was his last gasp goal previously.

Tbf the physical demands of playing in England's midfield wouldn't be quite the same as playing in United's.

Part of me is saying it's far too soon but the other part is saying why the hell not. He's dealt so well with the pressure of playing for United and I wouldn't be surprised if he takes playing for England in his stride too.
