Never mind the flag, but the price. Robbers.
Clever marketing from Nike. Get everyone talking about the facking flag rather than their rip off prices.
Personally, instead of say letting the Tommy Robinson types take ownership of things like the England flag, I think that others should own it themselves.
I think it is both for halting progressive change and whip up support.
I think the main issue that some of us have with the desire from the left to have a more honest, rounded view is that we seldom hear any of the positives from the left and it just comes across and country-bashing.
---------------------------------------------------------
I wonder what you mean by The Left in your post, SatNav. Plenty of people on the left have talked about reclaiming the flag, and I think the vast majority are very comfortable with the kind of patriotism articulated by e.g. Gareth Southgate in that widely circulated essay written before the Euros. The Labour party - i.e. the mainstream vehicle of centre-left British politics - loves to embrace patriotism and the flag, tends to include things like the foundation of the NHS and "tolerance as a British value" in its positive narrative of the country. It treats those more vehemently critical fringe voices, such as Diane Abbott, like the embarrassing racist uncle, and indeed she is currently suspended from the party.
Meanwhile, the fulminating, acknowledging-slavery-means-you-hate-Britain kind of nationalism isn't a Tommy Robinson fringe view. It's mainstream conservatism, entirely characteristic of our leading right-wing media and our last three (at least) Prime Ministers. We have senior Tories making racist slurs.
Of course there are idiots and extremists on both wings. But I think we need to acknowledge that at present the ones on the Right are mainstream and adjacent to power, while those on the Left are marginalised - and they'll hate Keir Starmer's imminent government at least as much as the Tories will.

The issue for me also is the conflation of people who genuinely query why such changes are made with feather-spitting hardcore people.
Furthermore, whilst it may be a design harming back to some training kit from the 1960s, if you believe that, but I think the FA also stated that it’s for unity & inclusivity. If that’s the case then they’re doing for a political point much as with BLM / LGBTQ. A lot of people think that sport shouldn’t get involved with politics. Similar debates were had with Ukraine colours vs Israeli colours after 7 October
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm all for making sports (or anything for that matter) inclusive, and I think we still have a long way to go in that respect for all people to feel welcome with who they are at football. Rainbow armbands for example are 100% correct. I just question whether changing a flag is cool, regardless of how inconspicuous it is... it's quite radical even if there are a handful of instances where its happened before. I guess that's why it's got so many people talking! I still think it's wrong.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
I agree. Do an armband, don’t change a flag.

It’s a crude, vague term but this is always the case when grouping people.
Agree with your Diane example and again similar happens to the right. Moderation and middle-ground non-sensationalist reporting doesn’t generate revenue; hence the polarisation enforced upon us all. We all actually have far more in common that one would think.
I don’t think the left is as marginalised as you do. Politically in this country, sure. A Corbyn type won’t get in. But media, social media, education etc are all areas where the left is dominant (maybe not media).
I also agree that the left hate Starmer, as they should. He’s a boring Blair who also was as much Labour as I am….
The important thing is that it's enraged Farage, Leanderthal and Julia Heartless-Sewer, which is surely more of a unifier than any flag could ever be
