Newcastle Tactics

It’s something to consider next season. This season, Arteta, Klopp, Pep and Poch are not going to change their teams style to try and stop us, they will trust their teams style can beat ours.

Burnley and Sheffield U might, but we should be good enough to beat them anyway.

It’s those sides in the middle where this becomes a problem, or sides that set up that way anyway

ETH used it vs us an got smashed 7-0. You simply have to be up for it more than the opposition on the day and you need luck when it matters. Feel like its very dangerous and if spurs were up for it vs new astle they could have had a lot of success vs such a tactic. Liverpool were in a few times vs Atalanta especially Elliott but the final ball wasnt there kinda like Liverpool on the night tbh.

Really like Eddie Howe. Hope he gets the England job

I'm not normally one for stats but it's frightening that on 27% possession they got 4 goals and 16 corners (to our 3). They gave us the ball knowing we'd do fack all with it.

As the seasons progressed it feels like other teams have sussed us out and a plan B is very much needed.

posted 2 weeks, 1 day ago

Howe said that the team had been working on the plan all week with the same players, what plan was Ange working on all week ?

posted 2 weeks, 1 day ago

these aggressive man to man approaches in response to us are just as risky as the way we play really

I think with time and experience we'll get better at manipulating then and dragging players around to create space

it's all a work in process, no need to panic

If we went man for man, low block at home with 27% possession most of you would be wetting the bed.

"At least have a go" " I don't buy a ticket for 27% possession" "We are just waiting for then to score" The usual Karen statements.

We have tried that under Conte and look how it worked out. Fairplay to Howe but his tactics allowed Werner to miss two sitters before our heads dropped after they scored.

Some of you need to make your minds up instead of jumping on next bandwagon.

I also question if some of you have the stomach for a project before you wet the bed wanting the manager sacked.

Our fan base is either full of pond life losers which feed on to the players, or billy big timer frauds saying stupid things like it's in bag, or making headline statements not in correlation with our Spyrsy history.

the response to the Newcastle game was pretty confusing to me

obviously an awful day and an awful performance, but people were acting like they weren't expecting those at some points this season?

There's 114 points up for grabs every season. Nobody would have thought we'd get anymore than 65-75 points. So how were people expecting us to go about dropping 40-50 points this season? By playing well every game but being unlucky?

This is just the reality of being a 4th/5th place side, you're not good enough yet to go a season without games like Fulham and Newcastle.

We want to get to the level of the top 3, none of those sides were close to the level they're at now in their first season with their manager. And even now those teams are still losing games and putting in bad performances occasionally.

Yet people think the fact we're a flawed side means Ange needs to abandon his philosophy and come up with a 'Plan B' (whatever that means)

As soon as they went ahead the writing was on the wall. It was obvious they were going to sit back, let us have possession and hit us in the counter. Every time they went forward they looked like they would score. West Ham did the same the other week.

I like Ange’s philosophy about having the ball but sometimes our approach just looks reckless. Unless you’re City, you can’t always play such a high risk strategy so we either need to get better at keeping the ball or change tactics.

Our midfield gets bypassed way to easy. There is no ball winner. Even Micah Richards on Motd highlighted Bissouma's positioning and lack of awareness.

The fullbacks, Bents and Madders were culpable too but you want your DM mopping up tring to control the game.

The DM is the number one position we should be targeting this summer. Scoring goals overall is not a problem. Leaking goals is our biggest.

People need to remember this is season 1. We were appealing last year and sold a generational talent in the summer.

As patient as our fan base has been, it’s unfair to get on Ange’s back at this point - he needs more time for plan B and this season has been far from a disaster.

If it’s like this at this point next year then serious questions need to be asked, but this year was all about getting plan A correct.

also the reality of this style of play is that no matter how good we are we will always be at risk of being done 4-0 from time to time

Look at some of Liverpool's defeats during this period they've won a PL and a CL

Didn’t Pep get done 4-0 at Everton in his first season? I remember Villa doing Liverpool 7-2. ETH is likely to get United to 3 cup finals in 2 seasons, but he got done 3-0 at home by Bournemouth and 7-0 at Liverpool.

We’ve looked soft away from home since the Villa game, questions need to be asked about the mentality of some of our players - Maddison goes missing for instance. But at the same time we need to be patient and see if the correct changes are made in the summer.

Also, Eze again yesterday showing he is going to be a top player, we have to strike this summer for him, he will give us extra thrust

I wouldn't say no but a top class DM is more important. Why is a new play maker always the priority for some fans? People were begging for Maddison. We got him and now look.

Why is the default response to any problem a new play maker for Spurs fans?

Just lost 4nil and leaking goals every game. I know, lets buy a new player maker lol. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Onana at Everton one to look at maybe with their financial problems

not totally sold on him on the ball but he's such an athlete that you would back him to defend all that space in midfield

Him or Ederson at Atalanta. They said we made a bid for him in January. Has a goal in him too. Every loves a Brazilian DM.

Losing is one thing but spurs were completely blown away. That’s the worst performance I’ve seen since the last time we went up there.

There was no effort, no pride, no idea.

Ange was clueless how to stop it too

At this stage in the season, it’s very worrying.

I'm not anti Ange or Ange out as I have found him a refreshing change to where we were with Jose & Conte.

I think he does need to modify his tactics a little sometimes we can't just be this all out attack or nothing. He's got to find a balance somehow especially when we play the better sides out there.

What annoys me more than anything is the players. They all seem to have a mare at the same time every time. Not sure if thats a confidence thing or just they concede and think well thats then but it always seems a collective thing. Not one of them grows a pair and has a go ... it would be great if one of them did.

It just shows heart and desire which for a fan means everything even if you are losing 4-0.

The second thing that annoys me. Yes we can call this a progress season of discovery and changes so why have not one of our many talented youngsters made on the pitch this season for any length of time or games etc.

posted 2 weeks, 1 day ago

Another thing.... dunno if it's just Ange's way but he shows little or no emotion at pitch side and just stands there. For a fan that is very very frustrating to watch.

As I say it may just be his way.

As good as our youngsters are performing at U21 and U18's there isn't one player better than our experienced pro's. Devine is probably one of the best ones and out on loan. Can't even get into the Plymouth team every week.

He has already been dwarfed by Wharton at Palace who is very good player with lots of potential.

We have plenty of young players like Sarr, Udogie, Micky, and BJ who have been up and down all season so this whole thing about Ange not playing youngsters is a myth.

posted 2 weeks, 1 day ago

yeah I get that but they are all players we have purchased all of whom will have already been playing for whoever we purchased them from .....what I mean is home grown youngsters surely we have one or two who merit some time on the pitch with the first team.

How else are they going to learn, improve, gain some experience. Loaning them out never really works as we know because they may not play and when they come back they are back where they were when they left and no progress.

He has said he is not one to jump around on the sidelines. I respect it. I don't remember it being a problem earlier this season. He was heard in pre season shouting at the likes of PEH on the touchline for not passing it forwards. If you want manager acting like a lunatic maybe support lego head?

If they are good enough they will play. Phillips has had plenty of game time as has Parrot. There are some good players at U21 level with potential but they either need loans or prove they are better than any first teamer. I trust Ange'e judgement on them. Some of the better players in the U21's have had injuries as well.
