I know there’s all this talk constantly about the 3-4-3, but I find it confusing. Both Palace struggle like we do in the same system? Southgate’s team that were penalties away from a Euros win didn’t in his 3-4-3. Tuchel’s Chelsea were good in 3-4-3, Alonso’s Bayer were fantastic in 3-4-3 (and beaten in the EL final by Atalanta in 3-4-3). Amorim’s Sporting were of course excellent in a 3-4-3.

So what isn’t working for us? I get there’s a couple of positions that could be improved in terms of personnel, but we’re not that far off surely?

I wouldn’t count Southgate in, he played mostly against weaker team, with best England team in generations + a top striker up front.

The midfield and wing backs have to be good to pin the opposition back.

Both our midfield and wingback options are the worst of our squad tbf.

Keepers shiyte obviously too.

I do t think it’s as simple as that. We seem to struggle to actually get the ball from back to front. We’re constantly forced into sideways and backwards passes even after getting into advanced positions.

And we don’t seem to have a very good answer to opposition teams overloading our midfield two once were forced into a back 5.

Either this is a recurring issue that all of the previously mentioned teams have to contend with, or something simply isn’t working in the way Amorim’s version of this system is working (for us, if not Sporting).

After this bruno will be taking that SA deal and Mainoo will be making a move

Cos we don't play 3-4-3?

We play 5-2-2-1 when defending and then it switches to some combination of

3-4-2-1 or 3-2-0-5 when attacking, I'm not even sure, and I'm certain the players aren't sure either.
