I just watched N/MBCs top 25 goals of the season (and am not surprised that most I had watched for the first time) and I think I’m so out on watching free kick goals now. Unless it’s something truly special like that Payet against palace one, some of the Bale dipped ones or something clever like that Berba dinked free kick vs WHU, I just don’t need to watch another ‘spectacular’ free kick goal.

Palmer had one, Bruno had one, I think TAA had one. They were all incredible freekicks, they were all impressive goals, I think I’ve seen that exact type of goal so many times now that unless it’s live it has no impact on me whatsoever.

Big Jon Bass is why I stopped listening to that pod in the first place, probably worth giving him another chance

Yeah, everyone is now curled nicely into the top corner like every other freekick goal. Watching JWP score them was like pressing repeat on the same highlight.

Set piece delivery is more important now anyway vs ability to hit direct. But you get the odd few that can do both

I think we see less and less fouls in those areas too, I don't have any stats to back it up - but it feels like we have only had like 5 opportunities for dangerous freekicks all season.

In a similar vein I feel like there were articles recently about how long-range thundercůnt strikes are rarer than they used to be for whatever reason. Makes them all the more special when they do happen. Always had a soft spot for Alexis MacAllister for that reason.
