Any tips?

Whenever the wife and I take a trip to the local Multiplex to take in a film, we inevitably end up killing a bit of time playing this great game.

But she nearly always beats me.

Has anyone got any tips on how I could improve my play?

I'm quite good at doing the old "rebound the little plastic disc off three sides of the table to confuse her then slam it right down the middle" trick but I need some new moves.

And I'd appreciate a bit of clarification on the rules: My wife reckons you're not allowed to put your hand on the table surface same as with ping pong as it disrupts the air-flow and is technically cheating. Is she right?

Oh hang on, I've just read the catagory header and it says "Ice Hockey" not "Air Hockey."

Defence! Always keep your bat over the goal, it's a small gap she has to aim for. Only use the sides when shooting if she has her bat away from the goal. Perfect your aiming when she's got the bat over the goal, shoot hard and get back to your goal with your bat straight away.
