10,000 unsold cards Dean.....

They used to be called season tickets, but now they are fancy season cards...a bit like the cards dean used to sell, when he made his millions through hard work, enterprise and 'nouce'.

So, Dean...when you had your card shop business, and your stock of unsold cards was too high, what did you do my friend ? ...of course we know the answer, you left them on the shelf at the same price...and every springtime in fact you put the price up. That's how you made a successfull business...err, I don't think so....

Right, now you own a football club...and there are 25,000 unsold seats in the Stadium, to sell to customers...You look around, work out the accounts and fix a price, put them on the market and sell 8,000.... so that leaves 17,000 unsold for the turn up and pay on the day customers...of which you have 5,000....fair enough, so you've sold half your stock of seats.

Every week your 13,000 sold seats are filled up with people happy to pay your price, and then there is the 12,000 empty seats which no one is prepared to buy at the price you are selling them for..unless of course there is a big attraction, like a local derby or a play off game...

Now I'm no business man Dean, but don't you think you are missing something here ? Maybe if you had a word with my mate Darn, who knows more about these things, and many other issues about stadium atmosphere too, ??

And while you are discussing ways of filling as many seats as possible, maybe a 'home end', stewarding, catering, standing areas etc could be discussed too...

Meanwhile, lets hope promotion to the Championship will fill the gap which exists between supply and demand for seats at the ghostly galpharm...

Cryer,

No need to get one on at my age - It's like washing your feet with your socks on.

Questions get asked,
suggestions are made,
They are debated.
By the ones who care, then.
It all went to shi...
..ver mi timbers.
Superb thread Jacko, I gave it the 1st "5" way way into it, even for those who didn't/don't agree with the initial question could hardly deny it to be anything other than a decent topic.
Disappointed.
At a time when we should be sorting problems out, & for the good of ourselves, the fans..we descend into yet more pointless tabloid style division,
encouraged by posters, who it has to be said, contribute nothing to the debate - bar self bloating ego.

This wasn't a 'banter' thread.

Mirf. El Arauns is Brycey. FFS calm darn & go cut the grass.

cheers Darn...there's always a few petty arguements seem to find there way in...and folk wander off topic too, but hey, the threads are just 'openers' and it's funny sometimes to see where the thread ends up....

A lot of guys get very protective over Deano, and even this topic seems to get the hackles up for some, they seem to think it is 'anti-hoyle', but it isn't...it's just what do we do with 10,000 empty seats if we don't get promoted, because we have no apparent strategy to improve revenues at the gate if we stay down and new fin regs come in...The subtle point was lost on most geezers unfortunately....maybe we'll just have to get promoted then

The club is constantly working on improving the revenues.

Off the field the commercial dept is world away from what it was 5yrs ago
Sales of Exec boxes and things like the White Rose Club are at an all time high.
Season ticket sales will stil be in the top 3 or 4 next season
The club is constantly working to improve it's finances but it's been proven in the past that the only way to get bums on seats is to have success on the playing field

Boris...I don't doubt thereis a lot of activity to boost income streams in other areas, and good work it is too..but that's another subject really..

The 10,000 empty seats isn't all about revenues but atmosphere too , which has been a topic on here for a while... I'm not criticising what's been done at Town, I'm just raising the issue to see what guys think about it, and is there a solution apart from.." we'll just have to get promoted" ?

coventry have been relegated..terrier.. but the rest reminds me of the seasons in the championship.. games every week or so to really look forward to.. good crowds, lots of interest..good away supports etc..
thats where the money is..

If we have success the people will follow at more expensive prices than we have now.
If we don't then it'll just be the die hards again

Dropping the prices doesn't mean they will come, take the 2008/09 season where the most expensive season ticket was £175. That season we averaged 13,350 despite selling 16,123 season tickets and having the luxury of a visit from Leeds and Leicester.

As for the atmosphere it's been said and done many times before. The stewarding is the problem. The club aren't that bothered citing H&S, the fans(majority) aren't bothered as the Pink Link stand proved.

we can "give away" or discount as many tickets as we like.. to get people to come back we need to win something..
even wendies/the blades being at the top end of the league couldnt enthuse their "pay on the day" support with yeovil at home etc..
you simply have to have "bigger games" and then the walk up and pay support will at least turn out for those..

trying to entice people to watch 3rd division football with freebies etc will get "bums on seats" today but if its the same league and same opposition next season , chances are they wont come back at full price..
