Two old codgers make it to a final and the oldest parambulated invalid beats the one time greatest player of all, Federer, in an Hour and 35mins.

Methinks Rogers zimmer frame needs pimping.
Halle the old men of tennis.

I had people over for BBQ, so didn't see any tennis today, but am happy for Haas.
He's a funny bloke , either beats Fed or gives him a w/o.
Fed seemed to have been quite impressed with Haas' play today in his interview. He does have a nice, natural game.

Has the fire of ambition dulled in Federer's heart ?
He's making too many errors of late, but I suppose the real test is coming up and the Olympics later. I'd be sad if he played the same way in the Games, he needs at least the final to give him a shot at true greatness, instead of just plain GOAT. (TiC)

I'm pretty sure the fire's there as strong as it's possible at this stage of his career.
He's as committed as he can be, just that doesn't seem to be quite enough.
To me, he feels like a man who's been burnt by past experiences and that somewhere deep in his mind that has killed something permanently.
Tennis psyche is a very , very fine animal.
We'll see.

From tennis.com:
"The French Tennis Federation turned down 34-year-old Tommy Haas' request for a wild card, so the German went out and won six matches—the equivalent of making the semis at Roland Garros. Of course, three of those matches were in the qualifying event (and thus, three-setters), which Haas was forced to enter when the French organizers showed little sympathy for the comeback hopes of this former world No. 2, who's on the short list of "best players never to win a major."

Was that Halle ? I thought it was a German event.
Still, its egg on faces for the organisers.

Not sure if something has died with Fed - just think he doesn't have the intensity over the long periods required.
Also, Halle isn't a priority..its all about getting some time on grass under the belt and in that respect, its job done.
I think he will have a better Wimby than LY and could make the final this time. Sadly I think winning it is beyond him. The light is fading fast though and I think the Olympics with best of 3 Sets up to the Finals is his real priority this time and best bet.
