Had this debate with my Spurs-loving girlfriend yesterday and lost so I thought I'd share it with Tottenham fans.
Although this is yet to be confirmed the expectation is that Harry Redknapp will take on the England job after Capello goes post Euro 2012.
Essentially next season you'll have a new manager. However this article isn't about this.
Personally I don't like the Redknapp clan at all (Harry with his "ya'know" & Jamie with his trousers + the ad).
Personal feelings aside, your players' seem to love him & I gather this feeling is shared by the fans aside one or two issues (lack of a decent striker signing).
However if he does depart do you think this will spell the end of what I think is a very good squad?
We hear it all the time, manager leaves players also want to leave. Although wholesale departures rarely happen (ironically more so to CL teams) if (& right now this is a big if) you miss out on top 4 do you think there will be a mass departure of your key players (Notably Modric & Bale but also Lennon, Defoe, Sandro & ironically Gomes) at the end of the season.
Initially I thought quite a few would leave then I thought about Levy & his penny pinching (rightly demanding every single penny). I also had a second look through your squad & thought your spine won't leave more likely it'll retire.
Friedel (as Gomes replacement) at 40 is unlikely to be around for another 2/3 seasons.
Gallas although still fit will want a 2 year deal (believe you have a 1 year deal on over 30s) as his expires at the end of this coming season.
The rest of your squad is made up of solid 'under-rated' players that no one will buy because there are flashier targets (names/profiles/younger)
Asssou-Ekotto, not world-class has come on immensely & can handle a tricky winger more often than not.
Dawson for me is better than Terry (I don't rate him as highly as everyone else; good player/great leadership skills/captain of a winning/competitive team - my view very good player, right place right time), his positioning is second to none.
The likes of Corluka & Huddlestone are very solid players.
King sadly has his knee troubles but when he plays is one of the best in the country
I can't see Van Der Vaart leaving, of the elite clubs in Europe it's hard to fit him in to their systems. You essentially have to build around him.
Defoe, well who would he go to (The Top 6/7 go abroad for strikers plus his age/likely price & poacher role won't suit any of them).
The likely price & destination of Lennon would also prevent his departure.
Anyways apart from the obvious (Bale & Modric) from your first choice XI there's very few others who are likely to leave Spurs in the immediate future (next 2 years). Other than that my other worries would be Sandro & Naughton. Two young up-and-coming players that will attract alot of attention. Not seen enough of Naughton to judge his defensive abilities but I can't see him going anywhere (apart from Chelsea everyone of the Top 6 has a settled right back; I exclude City from this because of their scattergun approach). Sandro looks brilliant, if I could pick a player to join us it would be him. You've got your hands on a special player there (not in the sense that he'll win you games but the sort that wins you championships).
Sorry if I've missed any players out & for the long article but feel free to add your own input.
Redknapp Time-bomb?

Can I sum it up as " Spurs will go back to their favourite mid-table finish in a year or two" or do you have anything else to say?

I fully agree about Sandro i would honestly rather lose Modric or Bale rather than Sandro.

Firstly we were at some family gathering where we knew no one. Everyone was in their late 40s (no offence to 40 year olds) & we're in our early 20s
I said everyone will jump ship & she said no only one of Modric/Bale. I've gradually come to agree on this.
