So How Do Northern Irish Fans....

Think the World Cup Qualifiers will go for Northern Ireland???

Personally i'm quite pessimistic!!!!

I see on the ROI board our Southern cousins are optimistic!!

Well they thought Traps knew how to beat Italy, they would draw against Spain and they would beat Croatia!!

So who am I to disagree!!!!

I cant see N.I beating or even drawing with Portugal or Russia so I don't think OWC will be at the 2014 World Cup!!!

Hopefully the ROI will qualify and once again show the footballing world the pride and passion they showed at the Euros

who where the 10? Didnt hear of 10 players missing through injury for you guy's.
..................................................................................

McCarthy (Wigan)
Hoolahan (Norwich)
Meyler (Sunderland)
Coleman (Everton)
Wilson (Stoke)
Duffy (Everton)
Clark (Aston Villa)
Pilkington (Norwich)
Fahey (Birmingham)
Kelly (Fulham)
Stokes (Celtic)

Some of these guys were injured, most of them however were just overlooked by the stubborn Italian manager.

I think 99% of irish fans would have rather seen some of these guys get an opportunity at the Euros rather than persevering with St Ledger, Ward, Whelan, O'Shea in every game etc... when they were all clearly having a shocking tournament.

'If we had an easier group' - just confirms they weren't up to it,
...................................................................

True Gawa, but can you name me any other teams in Europe who would "up to it"?

Qualifying from a group with the resurgent Italians and quite simply the best international side of all time?

Germany? Holland? England? Not a chance.... Portugal might have scraped a couple of draws on a good day.

^^^^ well said. Cant believe I forgot all about Meyler and the Norwich trio of Hoolahan, Pilkington and Tierney.

Who said anything about injury? read it again GAWA. Think before you post.

Coleman
McCarthy
Clark
Wilson
Stokes(better than Cox an Walters)
Foley
Ireland
S.Reid
Duffy(better than O Dea)
Lawrence

Not to mention Fahey pulled out through injury, and trap ignored the likes of Gibson,Long and McClean at the euros. So anyone who thinks Ireland were at full strength at the euros dont have a clue what they are talking about.

------------------------------------------------------------------

Exactly! according to you they should have been in the squad. Its not like Trap didnt have the option of not picking them - to say they where missing implies they would have been there but couldn't be through injury.

The players you mention are not any better than what you took - its replacing like for like!

I cant take you seriously anymore after that comment. So if England for example didnt take say gerrard, Rooney etc to the tournament because he had fallen out with them, does that mean England are still at full strength ? obviously not. Those I mentioned arent world class but

McCarthy is better than Andrews
S.Reid is better than Whelan
Hoolahan is better than Hunt
Clark is better than Ward
Duffy is better than O Dea
Stokes is better than Cox and Walters
Coleman should have been at RB and O Shea moved into CB alongside Dunne
Wilson is better than Green
Foley is better than McShane
Ireland is better than McGeady

So yes were were understrength thanks to our clueless, stuck in the past manager. It didnt have to be that way, we could have taken our strongest squad, but anyway its in the past and I cant be fecked to talk about it anymore.

Look at the clubs the playes where playing for

McCarthy is better than Andrews (Wigan -Stoke)
S.Reid is better than Whelan (WBA - Stoke)
Hoolahan is better than Hunt (Norwich-Wolves)
Clark is better than Ward (Villa-Wolves)
Duffy is better than O Dea (Everton (4games) -Celtic)
Stokes is better than Cox and Walters (Celtic - WBA/Stoke)
Wilson is better than Green (Stoke - Leeds)
Foley is better than McShane (Wolves-Hull)
Ireland is better than McGeady (Villa-Moscow)

Im sorry but there is no clear margin of difference that would suggest those players could have competed any better in your group. Its not like its players from top 6 PL clubs not making it in and someone from wolves does.

Not really Gawa, it's like England leaving behind Wellbeck and Oxlade-Chamberlain and selecting Downing and Michael Owen instead Madness!

The above irish players mentioned are all young and premier league standard, Trap on the otherhand chose to persevere with a group of ageing championship standard players simply because they had more "experience".

This meant we had absolutely no backup plan when the sht hit the fan and even players who were at the Euros and could have made a significant impact (McClean, Gibson, Long) were not used.

But hey, I do understand that as a NI fan it's probably easy to take delight in our failure, especially given the steady stream of player defections from north to south and the fact that "Gibbo the defector" didn't even play a minute at the Euros with Trappa electing to select the mighty Paul Green instead

Oh right Gawa, in that case Steve Davis is the worst player in the NI squad because he hasnt even got a club. Since when do you judge players on there clubs? its all about performances.

there is no clear difference in the players, they have proved nothing to suggest he shouldn't with he players that took him there. None of the players have pulled up any trees to force Traps hand.

I wouldn't call it failure - you got there! Was always going to be difficult with the group you had to be fair - but none of the players available where capable of competing in your group.

I said where playing for - ie when the squad was picked. The club you play for suggests your level of footballing ability - hence why all the big player play for big teams or make move to do so. You have listed swapping mid to lower PL players for other Mid to lower league players - it wouldn't have made a difference.
