South Africa v England, A ranking battle.

At the moment there is much excitement in the media at the thought that England could end up top of the ICC rankings in all three formats. All they need to do is whitewash Australia in the current ODI series.

Although I think that is far from certain to happen let's imagine they achieve that result.
Then along comes SA who would find themselves in a position to depose England in all three formats.

With three tests, five ODI's and 3 T20 games I believe that if they could win them all SA would replace England at the top in all three formats.

What a prospect we have to look forward to in the summer ahead.

Viru at Lords they had the best bowling and batting conditions and at the Oval conditions were pretty good the whole day, just a brief shower.
For my money their team is not well balanced, too many semi allrounders.

Australia look lost. We seem to have the same hold over them that they had over us in the 90's.

yh hope i meant to say that aussies are only good in their own yard. all credits to england though.

Are they good in their own back yard? They lost a test at home to NZ for the first time in ages and it's only 18 months since the last ashes series.

The Aussies are struggling to find a consistent side, something that dogged England for decades.

England have more strength in depth than any team in world cricket at the moment, and the core of that squad all sing from the same hymn sheet.

Aussie batting is just not good enough. The had a good series against a dire Indian bowling lineup (who doesnt these days) with Clarke the only batsman that might make the England test side. This is definently a role reversal from the late 80s and 90s.

England's chances of a 5-0 series win don't look promising if the weather forecast is to believed. It looks as if Birmingham is vying with Manchester for the title, wettest city in England.

Forget the batting it's the bowling that's going to be a treat to watch. I hope Steyn knocks KP's head off that way he may knock some sense into him, but here's hoping Finn gets a shot he can eat that RSA line-up for dinner. England will defo win...

Philander, Steyn, Jimmy, Finn, Broad... All should be on show, we'll get to see who's the best bowler in the world that way because it's one of them lot.
