I notice Stuart Pearce has left David Beckham out of the Olympic squad, based upon his form.
So pray tell me, why has he picked striker Marvin Sordell, who only scored 10 goals last season, instead of Jordan Rhodes who netted 48 times?.

id say ditch football and tennis from the olympics..but now the athletes are being paid fortunes to "compete" the whole thing has gone to sh-t..
usain bolt is guranteed 4 million dollars just for turning up!!!!!
lord knows how much when he wins something..
they have become like footballers...
then look out for the "lesser" nations whos competitors just sneaked in under the "qualifying" times and are therefore a million miles behind the big nations...
Is there any point???
there might be an upset when the 2nd or 3rd fastest bloke in the world at the distance wins, but if you are 50th in the world you are not winning anything..
Personal bests are great for me and you when trying to better whatever it is we do for sport but the cost and time involved for a great number of these people isnt worth it..
by the way we came 9th in the 100m freestroke last time..
Our bloke in the same event in the paralympics who has cerebal palsy won it in a time that would have made him 8th in the Full Olympics??
makes you think doesent it..???
One paid by sponsors and trained full time by full england coaches..
The other, paying for himself by fund raising whilst working full time and training as and when he can..

you cant really..
you cant charge fools large sums of money to watch him..
you cant get nations to "prostitue" themselves to get the olympics unless its a big "business" event..
coke v the american banks seems to be this olympics toughest event..
brand beckham has taken a hit, although i know beckham would have competed for nothing and given any earnings away etc.. football simply shouldnt be in the olympics unless they were all amateur players..
watching paid sportspeople earn large sums can be done every weekend and most weeknights, not sure why the olympics excites so many people, so much..
the lesser known sports and the sports people with little or no "profile" should be excited and supported..
we now have swimmers with 100,000 cars??? thats dafter than footballers having stupid cars..

The very first Olympics only featured 9 different sports, whilst at the 2016 games in Rio, 28 will be featured including two new ones, golf and Rugby Union (sevens).
To me, the Olympics are all about field events, plus other sports such as Swimming, Diving, Gymnastics, Judo, Boxing, Wrestling, Weightlifting, Fencing and Archery etc.
To include such sports as Football, Cricket, Golf & Rugby Union (sevens) is just taking the p-ss. Lets be honest, who cares which country wins any of these events, because none of them will carry any clout in the vast majority of fans eyes, since none of the teams will feature the best players available in any of the competing countries.
So all in all, it's making the games something of a farce and not really worth watching.

Rhodes might now go, due to Sturridge's illness.

I agree - we don't want Rhodes being knackered before the season starts do we?
Having professional footballers involved with the Olympics is utterly and completely farcical - if we must have football in the Olympics, then all teams should be made up of amateur players, who don't get paid anything.
Having said that, I suppose all the other sports involved are also paying their stars fortunes, so I agree with 38, ban the Olympics completely and use the money to ease the recession.

hold the olympics in greece..where they were born..
upgrade all their venues in between the games , cheaper option all round..
why anyone with any sense would want to host the olympics anymore beats me..
greece can be made ready everytime, they have the weather required and they are well located for everyone..
would certainly help them out into the bargain..
it would also stop all countries who now apply spending fortunes to "attract" the games and line the pockets of olympic commitee members...
