Butters to Norwich

Finally we know what's happening towd lads got his move to premier league so let's see if he will get any game time or not.

Being honest I wish him well we don't want players who don't want to play for us because that never works and if as reported in star would be more than happy if we can sign James Bailey decent at Crewe and did ok at Derby before injury.

I've seen this mentioned on a few sites about Bailey.

He is listed at the moment and according to a few rags we have asked Derby to keep us informed if anyone bids for him.

I wish him well! I've mixed views about his future though Norwich is probably the right sort of club.

The reaction of a lot of our fans is predictably childish, ill-informed and well wide of the mark. Nowt new there then!

Tribunal fee works to a formula so what we get will represent the value of an out of contract player of his age and experience. So please will people not embarrass themselves by talking about 'pants pulled down' and other common fictions! COYR.

As if!

Dear Mr Head of the Tribunal,

Regarding Jacob Butterfield's transfer to Norwich, here is my assessment t of his valuation.

Last season Norwich purchased Leeds United's Johnny Howland for £3.5 million.

Jacob Butterfield is three times the player that Howland is and thus I value him at an even £10.5 million.

I am however prepared to settle for the figure of £3.5 million given the circumstances.

Please could you invoice Norwich City on our behalf.

Yours Sincerely

Oooo, herein lies a dilemma davedrew. Keith Hill disagrees with you completely.

Today he has said that Norwich have made a derisory offer, which is disrespectful to the Club and the coaching staff. He has also said he is cynical of the tribunal process and we will not get a fraction of his genuine value.

So...I assume you also believe Keith Hill is also childish and ill-informed as well?

Norwich seem happy for the matter of the compensation fee to be settled by FA tribunal (hence the 'derisory' offer) rather than negotiate a settlement directly with the Reds. As such, we'll have no real say in what's decided so there's no point getting excited about what the fee might or should be.

Remember the fee will simply be compensation for the time, cost and energy put into the development of a young player by the club, rather than a transfer fee. Also, if Butters had been 24 yrs old we wouldn't be getting 'owt.

I say good luck to the lad at Norwich, now time for us all to move on. UTR.

The tribunal fee will probably be around £500,000 yet again (and even then it might be less) and losing our best players for next to nothing is really starting to irk me now.

That said, it's not as if we had a choice and we all knew it was going to happen so we'll have to take what we can get and hope to God we can find a suitable replacement (perhaps we already have one in Mellis). I wish Jacob luck at Norwich and think they're the right sort of club he should be going to, they play good football and they have a good manager in Hughton although this season will be tougher for them. It will be interesting to see how much game time he gets, though I've a feeling that because they already have the likes of Howson and Surman in his position he may be warming the bench more often than not.

All I will say is take bets on which championship team he will be loaned out to in January........

Royal, I don't disagree with KH's remarks which is clearly the start of our negotiating position, less than £500k is a derisory offer.

My remarks about 'childish and ill-informed' fans refer to a number of things that have been said, not just their assessment of JB's value, but far too many to enumerate.

Sorry, I can't do links but there is a thread on BBS which explains how the tribunal works. Of course, we can't expect to receive the same as if he were under contract, that's why players run their contracts down, but we won't get less than any other team would just because we are 'little old Barnsley', as some fans have suggested!

Ilkley Tyke, I agree with everything you say.

It's a pleasure to be on this forum which seems to have a much higher percentage of intelligent contributors than some. Tez, I think you're on the wrong board!
