Town are at a disadvantage even before the Championship season kicks off , due to Parachute Payments being paid this season to the likes of Blackburn, Burnley, Bolton, Wolves, Birmingham & Hull etc.
These payments apply to all clubs relegated from the Premiership, who are paid £16 Million for the first two years and then £8 Million for the last two, making it £48 million overall in the four years following relegation from the Premiership..
Parachute payments were introduced to help relegated teams adjust to the loss of TV revenues and to also pacify a number of Chairmen of mid ranking Premiership clubs, who feared relegation would have a devastating financial effect.
However, say what you like, but all the clubs listed above will have a definite advantage over Town this coming season, which can't be fair, although I suppose some will argue that such as Norwich, Southampton and Swansea etc. didn't have to rely on Parachute Payments to win their way into the Premiership.
Anyhow, what are you opinions and are such payments justified or not?

You only have to look at Rangers to see how wrong it can go even for 'massive' clubs.
Maybe clubs the size of Huddersfield/Blackburn should be happy at this level? It has been a lot worse!
The money that needs to be invested to remain mid table in the Premiership is beyond probably all but half a dozen clubs.
The others could drop quite easily with the appointment of a poor manager - we are proof. Villa nearly proved it.

To be honest, the Championship has a lot of decent attractive fixtures.
Forest
Burnley
Derby
Wednesday
Blackpool
Leicester
Birmingham
Wolves
Blackburn
Barnsley
Leeds
Bolton
Hull
if we could lose ........
cardiff
Watford
Millwall
and get................
Sheff Utd
Preston
Coventry
it's a good league..
Eventually we will have a Premier 2, but it won't see a reduction in the size of the Prem league tho', they've tried that before and they complained about losing home games revenue...but we might lose 4 out of the Championship...to even it up...that would be an interesting scenario..

its not paying the clubs for failure..
its for paying a load of bit part, everyday, ordinary footballers for being totally outclassed and outfought in a season in the premier league..
unfortunately those workaday footballers get paid stupid money to lose each week and have contracts that dont allow their failures to reduce their weekly wage.. the manager/coaching staff(some who seem to put much more effort, blood sweat and tears into the campaign than their players) get sacked, the players just start talking sh-te about "the club not matching their ambitions etc" and "need the move to re start my career sh-te"....
paying for failure, goes right through the leagues up to the england team...
managers come and go and none can get the "stars" of the game to frame, what chance have 90% of the league managers then???
sh-t footballers paid more than they are worth, on the field or off it..

Cant see how Brum have an advantage over us, Parachute payments or not, Any advantage they had over sides like us went up in smoke as soon as they made Clarky boss,,,,, Cue Mirf.

We had an advantage and still do with hoyley,s money but thats ok when its in our favour???
if we didnt have the parachute payments 3 ex prem clubs would go to the wall each season, and thats not good for football!....if you want to blame someone then look no further than sky tv!..paying stupid money for the rites to keep their tv service going(no footie=no subs)..bt had won nearly all the rites the season after this after the 1st round of bidding..then sky came back and won em again wi a silly bid!
nigel doughty sunk 100mill into forest and look were it got them!...there still needs to be good management along the way to achieve success!
the parachutes are a necessity in todays game!

38,
Correct me if I'm wrong, but you appear to be real bitter ex pro, who missed out big time somewhere along the line (could it be that you were born 30 years before your time?)
I sometimes wonder how you can continue to work up any passion, to keep putting yourself through the apparent mental torture of attending matches.
Having said that, I still generally agree with most of what you write, so what does that make me?
A sad old man.
