Rangers and Scottish Football

Some interesting points in the article below written by John Gow.
http://www.theawayend.net/articles/opinion/1181-rangers-respect-and-scottish-football?

'The club existed before the company was formed, and it will exist after it has gone. It will be a difficult road, but nothing worthwhile or meaningful ever came without struggle. '

Agree with the overall sentiment expressed, but he does seem overly sensitive about Jim Spence and his utterings.

Na thats only bitter Celtic fans that will dress it up that way.

Everyone still thinks of Napoli as Napoli.

polloks

don't baffle him with facts

back to the OP, good article, has a few home truths, the bloodlust has gone far beyond that of sporting integrity (whatever that means) and he descended into a withch hunt to exterminate rangers and their support

only in such a backward country as scotland could a football fan have more hatred for another club than love for his own

Brilliant article

No one at Rangers is asking for sympathy.

All we expected was a bit more common decency that what has been shown.

Its not all bad, there are fans out there that feel we have suffered enough and are now seeing the bigger picture and how kicking the $hit out of us isnt going to make things better for their own clubs.

But it is really rather disappointing to see the sheer level of hatred from fans of all clubs at times though.

Rangers should take the responsibility and blame for their actions of course we should, and we should be punished accordingly.

But much more than that is being laid at our door.

Due to the fact we've been such a dominant force for so long, the hole left behind when we've been rightly sent to oblivion is rather vast, but instead of looking at the bigger picture and admitting that this would not be the case if such a huge reliance was not placed on both ourselves and Celtic shoulders......the consequences of our club slitting its own throat with its actions is being seen as the bigger crime, because those consequences mean other clubs are suffering due to the reliance on us that we have supported for so long.

We cannot be held to account for what our own demise means for others.....for me, this is what seems to be happening, yet our club on its knees is being blamed for everything....despite the fact its us who are suffering the most, its us that have went from a club at the top of the tree to the very bottom rung, and its everyone elses need and want for what us being at the top brings them that is causing the rest of the issues Scottish Football has today

Tim, It's not what you Celtic fans call us that matters. It's The Rangers supporters that matter and we have always been The Rangers and always will be The Rangers.

As I've said from day one.

As long as the old firm rivalry is alive and well, both clubs are too

------------

Stevie we argued on here the day of the vote re the division that rangers would fall in. My point was that rangers in the 1st Div was what was best for everyone. Yes there would be moaning but it would be the best for all parties concerned...

You, and many other bears stated Div 3 or nothing.

The article however stated:
"I didn't expect non-Rangers fans to turn into Mary Poppins, but the lack of basic decency from many Scottish football fans came as a surprise. Wanting to see a weakened Rangers would be understandable; the near-begging to see a football team loved by many fellow Scots turned to dust, makes Scotland look twisted."

I am afraid if you are all shouting for division 3 and you get it, you suddenly cant claim hardship.

Nor can you simply forget the sanctions placed against 'oldco' for the failings of their structure, the duel contracts for example doesnt simply go away...

I absolutely understand the feeling of everyone "sinking the boot in" however i think the fight has to be more selective.

The embargo on players signing is unworkable in the present state due to the circumstance yet there has to be balance as the sanctions placed on Ally for his comments isnt another case of someone 'having a go' more the result of actions taken against the rules last year.

Sadly the reasons why are being forgotten as, i would imagine for some of the support, there have been so many things happen that remembering what was the action and for why can sometimes be lost...

Takfa

Some fans want us to completely die, and have revelled in every aspect of our demise.....thats the point being made.

On top of that......the suffering that other clubs are feeling is being blamed on us, by those fans, becasue we died and lost our place in the SPL....yet this is something the clubs themselves voted for due to pressure from fans, not us, and something that would not be happening if the old firm dollar wasnt a vital source of income for so many clubs in this country, but that is being totally ignored isnt it eh??

I am not suddenly claiming hardship for anything.
I'm stating the facts mate.

The SPL clubs voted us out, they made it very vocal that they voted us out for sporting integrity reasons and through the fans making it clear what they wanted.

Not a single SPL club said anything at all to oppose the idea of Rangers going into division one.......this was a plan designed for their benefit that also threw sporting integrity right out the window, but in this case, as long as the responsibility for that integrity being trampled on didnt rest with them, they were quite happy to sit back and not oppose the idea.

Fans did oppose that idea, but again, its Rangers who would have coped the flack if that plan became reality, it would be Rangers that would have to shoulder the burden of being hand picked and plaed in a league for the benefit of others when it was not pressure from Rangers or a campaign from Rangers that would've made it happen.

We are now a division three club.....I wanted us to be allowed to start again down there.....to be turfed out completely, made to reapply, getting the nod and starting afresh.

That isnt happening because the SFA would not grant newco Rangers a new membership if they had applied for one due to the 3 years of accounts stipulation.

What is happening is we are inheriting the oldco membership, and with it, the sanctions against the oldco....this is the only way the SFA are going to let us play in the SFL....despite them weeks if not DAYS earlier wanting clubs to vote us into the first division, totally bending all previous rules, regulations and whatever else in the process.

Now let me put this point to you......The SFA, the SFL, the SPL....ALL want Rangers in Scottish Football.......that is evidently clear, and the main reason for that is the money and fan numbers we bring to the table.

Why is it that the prospect of bending, breaking, reforming and rewriting the rules was put forward time and time and time again in order to keep Rangers in place in the SPL, to put them in division one, to punish them while taking the cash off them...all of that stuff.

But now that this club has secured a place in the league at the proper place in the bottom teir......a club all these authorities want in the league setup and do no want to lose........why is it that no bending of the rules or rewriting or whatever is even being considered when it comes to letting that club in, with a new membership, and being done with it then so that club can actually operate and sustain itself.

You talk about balance

The SFA didnt want to turf us, they couldnt, so they invented the punishment of a transfer embargo and are forcing us to accept that punishment in order to keep a place in the league that they actually WANT us to fill.

When that transfer embargo was dished out, I said all along....the SFA should just have turfed us out.

So its evidently clear that the SFA are quite willing to bend and break the rules when it suits them.......to put pressure on clubs to vote us into division one....to invent a punishment that is severe while not going the whole hog at the same time becasue they dont want that.

If Rangers quit the league tommorrow, the SFA would absolutely brick it!!

The SFA know this, and have engineered this transfer embargo merely to pacify those that want us hammered....thats all this is.

They couldnt throw us out, so are looking to make life almost impossible for us in the league.

My club has liquidated, been forced to reform, lost all its best players, dropped four divisions and had its future up in the air for the past few months due to under the table talks, plans and ideas being needlessly deliberated over when the eventual outcome that every wanted was staring them in the face.....why cant the SFA get the balance right this time, why cant they see tht this club, that they clearly want and need in the league, has suffered enough, that the longer this drags on the bigger the impact is on other clubs, that the whole country just wants to get back to the football, and that this transfer embargo could kill the club all over again
