Murray's mental flaw....

I wrote on here after his Wimbledon exit about "Murray's mental flaw"

I now look a bit foolish. Having just seen him in the Olympics win 5 consecutive singles sets against Djoko and Fed I think I may have to reconsider my opinion. It is early days yet, and it wasn't a Grand Slam, but still I very much liked what I saw. Maybe, after all, Lendl's influence is having an effect...or, maybe Murray is just maturing - whatever - I have to admit I liked it. I hope this can be a springboard to Grand Slam success.

When I am wrong, I don't mind admitting it. Hats off to those of you whose analysis of Murray's Wimbledon failure was more positive than mine

its not even on par with winning a masters series title,so while Murray considers this the biggest win of his career, his maters series titles is actually more prestigious
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
keep telling yourself that and you will believe it to be true!!

LMAO...yes thats why the Olympics is a 750 tournament and the Masters series is 1000 points
Even the WTF is a greater title in the tennis world, considered by many as the 5th major
For many sports the Olympic title it without a doubt the greatest honour, but not in tennis
The title doesnt even have an identity, played on different surface every 4 years, take the word olympics out of it and its a 250/500 tournament
There is also no money to be won in it
But if Murray and you want to consider it to be the greatest win of his career,so be it,but don't forget how he won Cincinnati the week before Beijing, tanked the first match at the 08 Olympics to a player ranked in the 70's,and lost in doubles with brother Jamie and surprise surprise there he was in the final of the U.S Open 3 weeks later
Even Judy Murray was reported to say before Beijing that whoever did well at the Olympics wouldn't do well at the U.S Open
But now that he won gold at the Olympics its suddenly the greatest title ever...??

Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. You really do love the sound of your own finger tapping!

Its only the Murray haters that cant see this as a bigger win other than a major. Next, you will be telling me John Mcenroe and Tim Henman don't know what they are talking about either!

Get over it. Andy is an Olympic champion and although his Masters wins are massive none of them come close to the Gold medal!!

There's more to life than money, sad that that is what you feel is important.

@ logie
LMFAO...nothing to get over mate, sorry to disappoint you..I am happy for Murray and I said he deserved the title..and I will say it again, congratulation to him for winning,he really made the nation proud
The point you're missing is that 4 years ago the Olympics title was so important to Murray that he wasn't even bothered to make the second round, but now that he won the title its suddenly his greatest achievement ever!
If you cant see the double standard by now then you never will,so don't attack me for just keeping it real

@ Jonty
Absolutely,I couldnt agree more..there is more to life then money but thats just my opinion and Im not a pro player
But you cant ignore the fact that some players withdraw from smaller events claiming they are injured or that the season is too long and its killing them but then you see them go and play exhibition matches for huge appearance fees.
Money talks and its clear that prize money does make the sport more competitive

My point was that its clear some that athletes are motivated by money. You cant blame me for that

Completely agree with that Vee-Jay, but these players have the money, this Olympics medal is something special, especially for a player in their home country and also for a player who is missing the Olympic Gold as the only thing missing from his career.

I know, its baffling how some players who already earned millions in prize money and millions upon millions from endorsements can still be motivated by money

But I have to say,and I said this before on another thread, that this Olympics I really felt that many of the players really embraced the games and really wanted to make their country proud, you could see the passion beaming through them
Just look how emotional Del Potro was after winning bronze for his country
Really refreshing to see, cause I never used to get the same impression when watching previous games

I wonder if it has anything do with being in London straight after Wimbledon,so it wasn't any inconvenience
08 was tough cause they had to fly to Beijing from the States and then back again for the Open

I think the fact it's at a Slam venue helped, plus the timing as you say....but just the fact it's at Wimbledon and in a country which has a tennis heritage must play a big part.

I have the feeling that this was the games that it became more accepted/important, can only wait and see if that is true when we get to Rio.
