Back to Basics

Well after the weekend's terrible display, ive had time to reflect on the problems i feel need fixing for this season. Granted its only been one game but this is a carry-on from last season's problems.

Its simply the formation i feel that needs changing, we need to start playing a holding midfielder again who plays in the whole inbetween midfield and defense. The reason i feel we need this is because the distribution from the defenders arent great, namely Knight. Also at times we are a little gung-go with the likes of Mears and Ricketts bombing forward at most opportunites and Petrov and Lee arent that great at tracking back. The Holding player can act as an insurance to cover these players. I remember the days of Warhurst, Campo, Heirro, Faye etc etc all being great in this position and not only did they tackle, they dictated play, the tempo. Id love for this to happen again but coyles 442 wont allow this. We must buy this type of player in and i know coyle is trying hard to, but will he still play the 442 formation? i hope not.

I also understand theres more problems to be solved if were going to have a successful campaign. More heart, creativity and we need Mavies to take the ball more. SKD to be dropped and used as a impact sub and we need Eagles to start in this division. By the way has anyone else been shocked at how undercooked we look against burnley? what has happened to Ricketts?

I really hope Coyle realises how poor our midfield is and how much better we are with 5, but after a consistently sheet last season and yesterday, i cant see him happening.

I thought our cm's were far too deep so we ended up having Sordell coming deep to get the ball which I don't like to see, we need him to play like Anelka (Not the same player I know) and play off the last man. Although granted once Burnley went two up they went quite deep so he had to drop deeper to get the ball.
