Team News & Manager Quotes: Man Utd (Predictions)

De Gea
Valencia, Carrick, Vidic, Evra
Cleverley, Scholes,
Nani Kagawa Welbeck
Rooney
(The potential in that attack )

Subs: Lindegaard, Da Silva, Anderson, Berbatov, Young, van Persie, Wootton.

Robin van Persie goes straight into the Manchester United squad. Last season's Golden Boot winner completed his move from Arsenal in time to beat the registration deadline, although after a lack of match practice, may be on the bench. Shinji Kagawa could also make his debut but Sir Alex Ferguson has problems in defence where Chris Smalling and Jonny Evans (both foot) and Phil Jones (back) are all ruled out.

Sir Alex Ferguson: "Robin is a world-class striker with a proven record in England and in European football. His talents need no introduction to our fans. His movement, finishing and all-round ability are outstanding. This is the best league in the world. Messi wouldn’t score 72 goals in this league. We need a finished player. Scholes and Giggs are coming to the end and we need maturity. That's why Robin is very important now. We never thought we'd get Van Persie. I couldn't see us getting him, but when he refused a new contract, that's when we acted."

Everton

Howard
Hibbert, Jagielka, Distin, Baines,
Osman, Gibson, Neville, Pienaar
Fellaini
Jelavic.

Subs: Mucha, Heitinga, Naismith, Gueye, Barkley, Coleman, Anichebe.

Summer signing Steven Naismith is in line for his competitive debut against Manchester United on Monday. The former Rangers player is one of two arrivals at Goodison Park so far, with midfielder Steven Pienaar returning from Tottenham. Marouane Fellaini (groin) and fellow midfielder Darron Gibson (thigh) have both recovered from injury.

David Moyes: “We'd already sold Joseph Yobo and Tim Cahill so it wasn't a necessity (to sell Jack Rodwell) this year but I felt it was the right thing and it will give us a little bit of a chance of looking around to see what we can do. I am happy with Steven Naismith and Steven Pienaar and while you wouldn’t expect me to talk about other players – it is wrong to talk about players at other clubs – we are out there actively trying to bring at least another couple of players to the club."

If Everton get off to a good start (like tonight) this season who knows what could happen as the 2nd half is always good and Everton have some good players I think. Shows the value of having a good striker in Jelevic, keeps the opposing defence occupied and goals win matches.

Andre Mariner did everything but score for United tonight, I expect Fergie will have him doing some extra training.

The bad news for Manchester United fans is that only twice in Premier League history has any club lost their opening match of the season and gone on to become champions.
