theo walcott

genuine question here. Is Theo really worth it, being one of our highest paid players in our team?

i know he hasn't signed anything yet, just going by hear say on what sort of wages are being offered.

if he does get paid the amount talked about he will be ranked amongst the top end players at the club by 'arsenal' for this current generation\squad. This is equal to the players that where top of the club during their time (also highest earners) at arsenal like cesc, henry, rvp, vieira, nasri, bergkamp ...........

Simply not true.

This idea that he's only good at coming on as a sub because he can knock and run is a fallacy.

When did he simply pick the ball up, knock it and charge past a tired defender?
He didn't; he exploited any space that was available in the centre of the park, drew in defenders, and created space for others.

We have no-one else that does this for us.

He didn't;

He did one decent run, the cross wasn't great but not terrible - other than that nothing of value. The first game he was starting and was abysmal.

You need to take those rose-tinted glasses off

He had the run where he nutmegged Wilson before playing the ball in, which I assume is the one you're referring to. He also dropped in off the line twice to draw away defenders and feed in Jenkinson.

My feed cut off for just under 10 minutes, but in the 10 minutes I saw him, I sort Walcott make a noticeable impact 3 times.

"He also dropped in off the line twice to draw away defenders"
==========================

Dropping off to draw away defenders is not devastating is it ? He also hit a couple of sideways 10 foot passes when he was stationary that didn't go straight to a Stoke player- do you want to count those too

He also did a lot of hanging around not making space and being horribly dispossessed - I don't suppose you want that to count...

Look, nothing would please me more than all the twits on here to be right and for him to be the 'new Henry'. I care much more about Arsenal than saying 'I told you so' - but you cannot learn to improve controlling a football at his age with the number of years he has been at it. He just doesn't have it.

I didn't say it was devastating; it was effective.
He dropped off of the line with the ball at his feet, and carried it into an area which contained a number of Stoke players, drew said players in close to him, and fed the ball to his teammates in the space that he himself created. If it's such a minor skill, why is there literally no-one else in our side doing this like he does?

Benayoun wasn't devastating for us last season, yet when he came into the side, he totally rejuvenated us.

They are doing it all the time - and it is a very minor skill. Benayoun was a much cleverer player than Walcott - I liked him - but he's just a bit old and another on a very high salary. He's better than Walcott but still not value for money to buy.

They're not - quite literally, no-one was doing it until Walcott came on.

Gervinho kept trying but failed at it and stifled our width.
Podolski just about managed one such run, but got tackled.

The sad thing on these forums is that people have little appreciation of quality when its front of their nose and much prefer exotic names who do nothing but are hyped. Theo is the scapegoat for the English media. But as soon as he will be playing for another club he will become the second coming and greatest ever.

Is Neymar worth the £50m and £230k a week he is demanding? or his Welbeck worth the 90k a week contract he has been handed. How about the fact a Man Utd/Man City/Chelsea/Liverpool full-back earns the same as the contract offer. Downing is on £80k a week, is he worth it?

How about the fact that Theo has been offered less than Arteta, Podolski et al. What did Gervinho, Podolski, Arteta do today?

Theo didn't even play today till it was too late but we have a article slating him. Maybe its time some people started supporting another team. Because you will be never satisfied at Arsenal. The media hates us and none of our players are good enough. They are building up Wilshere but he will be soon either too good for Arsenal or another false dawn.

Yes, they are queueing up to buy little Theo...

I wish they b****y would. The Grove is for cheering and supporting - JA606 is for honest debate - not sheep-like cheerleading

BTW, if you don't think Arteta had a good game today - doing very well a job imposed on him because Diaby has no ability as a DM - then it makes your comments even funnier.
