Martinez is persevering with the 3-4-3 formation; the back three plus Boyce and Figueroa at the moment (with Beausejour to return from injury) as wide players. The formation was at the root of Wigan's revival last season.
Martinez, I would say, adopted it as the best formation for the players in his squad. Mancini is also starting with a back three supported by Kolarov and Milner. Mancini, of course, has a much bigger squad and has the players to fit the formation of his choice.
We'll see if any more managers adopt it too. If they do, will it make games more difficult for Wigan?

Wigan out-played Stoke at the start, but Beausejour went off after half an hour to be replaced by Jones.
Soon afterwards, Pulis brought on Adam, switched to 3-4-3, and Stoke then came into the game.
