Very annoying hearing this by the odd American voice all the time. Why? We know the objective is to get the ball in the hole. As if shouting at it will make it go in.

The people that shout it should be forced at gun point down very deep pits. That's when "Get in the hole!" would be most appropriate.

they should make the idiots that shout it lie on the ground and hold the tee in their mouth while the player tees off on the next hole
