The biggest over-reaction since time began?

Ever since deadline day the Liverpool board has been full of doom and gloom merchants. The Arsenal loss and display has only added to that but things are certainly not as bad as everybody is making out.

What went wrong?
Well, we loaned out our record signing without getting a replacement.
Now that does sound terrible but if I'm more specific we loaned out a misfiring, out of place, Andy Carroll and didn't manage to sign Clint Dempsey.

Clint Dempsey is a 29 year old USA international, who has scored 50 goals in 5 seasons for Fulham. That is 10 goals a season, which is a good tally considering he played in midfield for the majority of the time. But that's the point, he's a midfielder he isn't the poacher/goalscorer we need and I certainly wouldn't back him to start scoring the goals leading our 3 man attack, as he's just not that type of player.

We have to wait until January to get that goalscorer, that gives us a month to get 1 player, no rushing just making sure we get value for money.

''But, not getting a goalscorer will cost us dearly running up to January...''

So what? What were you expecting this season? Top 4 wasn't going to happen unless we signed somebody in the same class as Falcao.

This season was always about progress and I've already seen some in our play, new players are getting used to a new brand of football and it will take time but as you can see with Swansea so far this season, it's effective when it's mastered.

The owners...
People are starting to turn on the owners, I can understand the frustration but they've not done much wrong. Kenny Dalglish spent millions on Andy Carroll (£35million),Jordan Henderson(£16million),Stewart Downing(£20million) and Charlie Adam(£7million). £71 million in total.
Now if we look at who could've been brought in for the same total at the same time.
Aguero cost 38m to Carroll's 35. Mata cost 22m to Downing's 20. Cabaye cost 4m to Adam's 7m and Ben Arfa cost 2m to Henderson's 16m.

Now I know it's easy to pick and choose the best deals but these are just examples of how the money could've been better spent and how it was wasted by the King.

We're still in a process of rectifying those mistakes and now the owners are trying to spend more cautiously(rightly so, FFP and all that!). In doing so we've bought a fantastic player in Allen for 15m! Assaidi for 3m, who admittedly hasn't played yet but does have a great record and could be a steal for that price, Sahin on loan and Borini for 11m who hasn't set the world alight yet but does look decent for a 21 year old who's adapting to the premier league.

We've got a young squad, a young manager and it's time for stability. We need the fans to stick by the team and be patient because any more chopping and changing will not do us any favors. It'll take time but it'll be worth it. Time to stick together, walk on through the wind and rain and accept that our dreams may be tossed and blown in this rebuilding process, and remember, if you can't support us when we lose, don't support us when we win.

Things are not as bad as they seem.

'Actually i think top 4 could be a possibility for LFC this year.
Although a remote one, but there is some caus efor optimism for u guys.'

I agree - that is the target, but you need something for the team to aim for but not necessarily reach. Not getting 4th would not be the end of the world nor would it be entirely unexpected!

If you can't support us when we lose, don't support us when we win.

That's the best, most sensible and realistic comment I've read for a very long time. Wish I'd thought of it myself. JimmyTheRed

Last year Spurs started the season woefully.

However due to Chelea having a very bad season leaguewise, they were able to get in the top 4.

Its quite clear that at their best Spurs and Arsenal have better teams/squads than Liverpool, so you guys need to prowl on them when they are weak and not fully gelled yet.
I think BR should sign a striker(free agent as window is closed) soon so that u guys get maximum return on the attacking play and opportunities ur players create.

Another example of Kenny getting the blame for the failings of the transfer policy. Buying those players wasn't necessarily a mistake but paying the extortionate amounts we did was a joke.

A comment from Pardew was quite interesting and informative when asked whether he would like AC back. He said something like 'Would I like him, yes. Can we meet the asking price, I've got no idea, you'd have to ask the owner'.

Managers are not given free rein to spend as much as they like on a player. The finances are sanctioned from above.

this is our worst start in 50 years.

Guess who the manager was 50 years ago???

Some people on this site just like to whinge and live in a dream world. We are not owned by rich arabs or Russians.

Some people need to be realistic and the gooners can do one as well.

At last...some sensible posts starting to appear!!!!

"if you can't support us when we lose, don't support us when we win".

YES!!! Spot on!!!
I've been a Liverpool supporter since 1964, through good and bad, and I'll continue to do so.
Of course I want to see us win trophies, win the league, even win the World Cup...well, ok, maybe not the World Cup...but I will always be behind the Reds, win or lose; and that includes the club, the players, and the manager!
We all, as supporters, need to stop whining because we didn't get what we want, and get behind the players and manager that we have.
How do any of us know how good Borini, Yesil, Assaidi, Surin, and Allen will turn to be (although Allen is already looking to be a bargain). Maybe, just maybe, we have unearthed a couple of players there, that in six months time we will all be raving about!!!

Speaking from the view of an outsider looking in, got to say after 3 games of the season not understanding all the gloom and doom merchants. Had one of the penalty appeals been given yesterday could be looking at a very different situation. Borini needs time to settle and Surin is quality. Allen looks a snip. You have a manager who got Swansea playing some brilliant football and now has far better players available to him, so a bit of time is needed.
I do feel you have a bit of the same situation that we have at Chelsea, Gerrard like Lampard has been a amazing player and servant but needs to be used less and eased out. Always hard to do when someone has been such a legend for the club.
Having seen a couple of your games I really do think a bit of patience is needed while you move in the right direction

I'm not too down about the performances on the pitch. New manager, new style of play plus a tough set of early fixtures was always going to be difficult. I don't think anyone is too unhappy with BR. A few big names have played badly but that happens.
