How about this..

.......................Reina
Johnson.. Skrtel.. Agger.. Downing
....................Allen......................
..........Shelvey.........Sahin...........
Sterling.........Gerrard..........Suarez

Gerrard playing the false no 9 role and Sterling and Suarez running behind.

While attacking the team would end up like this:

.......................Reina
.. Skrtel ............Allen.............Agger
............................Sahin.......
.................Shelvey....................
..........................Gerrard
Johnson..........(Gerrard)...........Downing
................Sterling...........Suarez......

Gerrard would be able to drag defenders all over the place as he's got a good movement and is dangerous..

I keep reading how Gerrard should play further forward, but surely he should drop back.

I think further back would mean more responsibility and discipline hence might be better further up.

If Gerrard plays further back he will just resort to hollywood passes.

Then he should be sold.

honest... I don't think most people on here know what's a false 9..

on a more serious note, in Brendan's system, only place I can see Gerrard fitting is at the front trio. Would be interesting to see him as a false 9, with freedom to roam and create, with no defensive duties, like Cesc' role in Barca. Though he might not have the legs, but if he doesn't have the legs for that, then it's over. Think about it, he might still have a few goals in him, and it's not looking that Sterling, Borini or Suarez would provide us with goals..

If we don't have a striker then this has to be tried, no point sticking with something that doesn't work.

Sahin is best in a midfield two, just need a DM next tnm him...

Fed up with Borini already?
He'll come good, no doubt.
