A few years ago Coventry led the Championship early on as they often did. We were playing Lewes or someone of that ilk. Now we take to the field with virtually our second eleven and play out a 0-0 draw with the Sky Blues. No O'Connor, Weir, Maghoma, Stanno, Zander, Calvin. Only an hour for Billy. Only a half for Ross Atkins.
We matched them all game. I am not saying we were great - we were ok. Coventry were atrocious. Their fans were booing them virtually from the kick off, they were jeered off at half time and their left back got booed all game.
Not a lot to say about the game really. It was very dull. A few quite decent chances for each team - more for them than us. The guy who kept us in the match was young Lyness who made some very good saves - the best of them being a one on one. He looks like a great acquisition. Shame it was he who fouled up with the penalty but he is a goalie not a striker.
The best player on the pitch by a mile was Billy Kee. You could just see how good he is.
An incredible batch of penalties. I have never seen it get through to the keepers in a live game before.
So, we lost but somehow we should be the happier of the teams tonight. Coventry are atrocious and victory won't mask the fact that they have obviously fallen a long way to be comfortably held at home by us.
Shame we did not take more fans. It looked like about 125 - 150 to me which is disappointing given that it is not far on the A444.

I really enjoyed the night. The game wasn't brilliant but it was quite exciting. Thought defensively we were outstanding and restricted Coventry to a couple of half chances.
Midfield chased and closed down all game. Up front for 70 mins Billy and Paterson ran themselves into the ground, both could have pinched a goal and i thought looked good together. What a miss at the death from JR, complete miss kick from 3 yards out! Why do we let goalkeepers take penalties?!
Finally, what a lovely stadium, well impressive, shame the locals dont turn up. All in all disappointed we lost, they didn't deserve to win!

Delighted with the overall team performance. Every single player played for their team mates, it was very encouraging.
Lyness was outstanding in the second half and kept McGoldrick out on one or two occasions. First half I thought Kee, Paterson and Clev ran the Coventry defence all over the place! Indeed, the defenders started getting panicky and hoofing the ball all over the place! Not surprised Shaw took them to task at half time.
You couldn't tell who were the L1 team, without half our starting 11 we were still the better team.
Penalties are a lottery, we deserved it, they didn't, so I agree with you Derbyyellow! As for Kee being different class, yes, he's a good player but on the night I thought the whole team showed well with McCrory probably the pick of the bunch.
Interesting to see if Rowett gives Lyness and Paterson the nod on Saturday? Lyness looks a class act and Paterson brings something different to the table.
Good squad, good team, good performance, lets hope we can mirror that in the League from now on.

Funny how folk see players and how football is all about differing opinions. Personally speaking I have not seen much from Paterson at all yet to fill me with enthusiasm. It's very early days in his Brewers career and I hope he goes on to score lots of goals. Let's hope that starts at Rochdale.
Now, a Billy Kee - Shaun Harrad strikeforce, that would have been something.
