From Russia without Love

So another qualifying tournament has suddenly crept upon us as we sit proudly at 1,000,029th in the World rankings just above the Isle of Man and 10 places below the Isle of Wight.

So who have we got to fear
Russia - Managed by a clown and who were rubbish at the Euros - NI 6 points
Portugal - Gift. Only one dangerous player but who bottles it when he plays the top teams, like us - NI 6 points
Israel - A Proud nation, but who will be too preoccupied with a Nuclear war with Iran.
Expect all their players to be called up for National Service - NI 6 points
Azerbaijan - not even in Europe and we will be awarded 6 points when we make FIFA aware of this
Luxembourg - The big danger and the team no one wanted. Would be delighted if we took 1 point of them - 0 points

Therefore would expect us to finish on 24 points and would be dependent on others taking points off the favourites. Unlikely but you never know

Now for tomorrow night and the banter has already started
Great response from Gareth McAuley

What response from McAuley?

And who's Portugal's gifted player - Meireles? Certainly not the Salford RedSox reject.

Might as well play:

Coco the clown (gk)
Elmer Fudd (rb)
Hunchback of Notre Dame (lb)
Big Bird and Kermit the Frog (ch)
Wylie Coyote (rm)
Crazy legs Crane (lm)
Pink Panther and Muttley in centre mid
Penelope Pitstop and David Jeffrey up front

Wouldn't do any worse !!!

How could big Davy play up front AND right back? That's just silly

He'll just have to track back when Crazy Legs gets sent off for two footing Ivan Drago

Don't mean to rain on your parade Earl, or any of you for that matter. I just don't know what you boys see in International football. I dunno, maybe it's just me but I think it's one of the biggest hoodwinks of the modern era. Best of luck to yiz anyway.

Not a problem
Maybe I'm a bit old fashioned, was brought up in the days when playing for your Country actually meant something.

Too many of the big earners couldn't give a monkeys now, plus the big time Charlie managers get annoyed (which is sweet) when their players are called up.

This is it Earl. For example how many of the players who say they are proud to play for their country will be on the Azerbaijan trip compared to those who go on the Portugal trip. I'd say the difference will be like night and day.

There was certainly a time when it meant something Earl, those days are long gone. It's not NI per se, it's the same the world over. Anybody who thinks Ronaldo will play at Windsor will be sadly disappointed.
