Switch in Midfield

Did anyone else notice the switch of trio in midfield during the early parts of the second half when we changed from:

-----------------Allen

------Gerrard-------Shelvey

to

------Gerrard--------Allen

--------------Shelvey

It allowed us to keep much more control during the second half, and allowed Gerrard and Allen to stop their counter attacks instead of just Allen. Shelvey also enjoyed more space.

Brendan also started with Borini up top on his own, and Suarez on the left but switched in the second half. It's clear to see he is still testing things out and getting used to the squad of players. He just needs time to adjust to the club, and the players adjusting to his style.

Anyway there were still many positives. Patience is the key.

I thought we looked a bit pedestrian in our play in the first half, but much better in the second. More urgency and crisper passing.

It's fair to say Borini hasn't set the league alight, but it's still very early days for him. I thought we looked more threatening when he went off and Downing came on.

Like last season it appears we lack consistency and a a natural finisher. However, I firmly believe that Rodgers knows what he is doing and we can improve, but it will take time.

To be fair to Borini he made the keeper work twice in the first half, and wasn't on the pitch during our best build up play.

Glad to see you lot appreciating that we need patience.

Agree with what had been said,we looked a wee bit pedestrian at times and Borini looks like he needs time; BR looks to be getting the system together and Downing added something to the team.

Sterling again played well even though at times he drifted out the game; all in all much more to be posistive about and GJ was for me along with Sterling pur best players.

The ESPN commentator made a very good point.

When you look at our starting line up, only Reina, Johnson, Agger, Skrtel, Gerrard and Suarez have more than a year's worth of experience of Premier League football, and Suarez only just.

Allen only had a year at Swansea, Borini has 10 games max, Sterling, Shelvey and Kelly have all broken through within the last year realistically.

The point is, it's hardly a team of seasoned internationals out there. It's gonna take time for them to adjust to the league as well as the system. So it's the vision that Arsene has had for a long time, of growing a team to play together. Hopefully we can take it one step further and actually hold on to our best players.

Johnson did well going forward, but his ;eg wave rather than a tackle was a big reason why we conceeded in the first half.

He's one of our best players, but still switches off occasionally which sadly proved costly today.
